Astrocytic ET‐1 System Determines Microglia Phenotype Following Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study reveals that astrocytic ET‐1 system is solely activated by thrombin following SCI via RhoA/NF‐κB and MAPKs/NF‐κB signal pathway. The release of astrocytic ET‐1 drives microglia polarization toward M1 phenotype through YAP signaling via ETA and ETB receptors.

A comparative study of an aminopeptidase from lactic acid bacteria: a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Biochemistry at Massey University [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Aminopeptidase enzymes from the proteolytic systems of S.salivarius subsp.thermophilus Lactococcus lactis subsp.cremoris and Lactococcus lactis subsp.lactis have been investigated.

On the Hodge-Newton filtration for p-divisible groups of Hodge type [PDF]

open access: yesMath. Z. 291 (2019) 473-497, 2016
A p-divisible group, or more generally an F-crystal, is said to be Hodge-Newton reducible if its Hodge polygon passes through a break point of its Newton polygon. Katz proved that Hodge-Newton reducible F-crystals admit a canonical filtration called the Hodge-Newton filtration.

Mapping Molecular Pathways of Multiple Sclerosis: A Gene Prioritization and Network Analysis of White Matter Pathology Transcriptomics

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objectives Rapid advances in transcriptomics have driven efforts to identify deregulated pathways in multiple sclerosis (MS) tissues, though many detected differentially expressed genes are likely false positives, with only a small fraction reflecting actual pathological events. Robust, integrative methods are essential for accurately understanding the

Redirecting the Peptide Cleavage Causes Protease Inactivation

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
Cysteine and serine proteases cleave peptides through covalent catalysis by generating a transient adduct with the N‐terminal part of the substrate after releasing its C‐terminal part. We demonstrate the unique redirection of this event leading to strong enzyme inactivation.

Identification of the Catalytic Triad of Family S46 Exopeptidases, Closely Related to Clan PA Endopeptidases

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2014
The exopeptidases of family S46 are exceptional, as the closest homologs of these enzymes are the endopeptidases of clan PA. The three-dimensional structure of S46 enzymes is unknown and only one of the catalytic residues, the serine, has been identified.

CHANGES IN LEVELS OF ACTIVITY OF SERINE PROTEASES ACCOMPANY THE EXPOSURE OF COMMON BEAN (PHASEOLUS VULGARIS L.) TO WATER DEFICIT [PDF]

open access: yesPoljoprivreda, 2008
A wide variety of proteolytic enzymes exist in plants. On their levels depends protein turnover, a fundamental component in plant development and adaptation to environmental conditions. Cysteine proteases have frequently been reported to be influenced by

Evaluation of NaTto Red Yeast Rice on Regulating Blood Lipid (ENTRY) Study: A Multicenter, Double‐Placebo, Double‐Blinded, Randomized Controlled Trial in Chinese Adults

open access: yesChronic Diseases and Translational Medicine, EarlyView.
Study flow chart of the ENTRY study. ABSTRACT Background Statins are the first line of treatment for dyslipidemia, but their side effects often reduce medication compliance. Natto and red yeast rice are natural ingredients with lipid‐lowering effects.

THE USE OF DIFFERENT PROTEASES TO HYDROLYZE GLIADINS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Gliadins represent alcohol-soluble fraction of wheat storage proteins which is responsible for development of celiac disease. The only and effective treatment for celiac disease is strict adherence to a gluten-free diet excluding any food made with wheat,

Specialized peptidoglycan hydrolases sculpt the intra-bacterial niche of predatory Bdellovibrio and increase population fitness.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2012
Bdellovibrio are predatory bacteria that have evolved to invade virtually all gram-negative bacteria, including many prominent pathogens. Upon invasion, prey bacteria become rounded up into an osmotically stable niche for the Bdellovibrio, preventing ...
