Synthesis of Sialyl Lewis X-Polysaccharide Conjugates.

open access: yesChemical and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 2000
Sialyl Lewis X (SLeX) is well known as a ligand of the cell adhesion molecule E-selectin which is specifically expressed at inflammatory lesion sites. We have synthesized several SLeX-polysaccharide conjugates and examined their potential for drug delivery to inflammatory lesions.

A Knowledge-Based System for Display and Prediction of O-Glycosylation Network Behaviour in Response to Enzyme Knockouts. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2016
O-linked glycosylation is an important post-translational modification of mucin-type protein, changes to which are important biomarkers of cancer. For this study of the enzymes of O-glycosylation, we developed a shorthand notation for representing GalNAc-

Characterization of bovine FUT7 furthers understanding of FUT7 evolution in mammals

open access: yesBMC Genetics, 2012
Background The Sialyl-Lewis X (Slex) is a well-known glycan structure involved in leukocyte homing and recruitment to inflammatory sites. SLex is well conserved among species and is mainly synthesized by FucT-VII in vertebrates.

Evaluation of Strategies Aimed at Improving Liver Progenitor Cell Rolling and Subsequent Adhesion to the Endothelium

open access: yesCell Transplantation, 2020
Adult-derived human liver stem/progenitor cells (ADHLSCs) are a promising alternative to orthotopic liver transplantation in the treatment of inborn errors of metabolism.

Glycans Related to the CA19-9 Antigen Are Increased in Distinct Subsets of Pancreatic Cancers and Improve Diagnostic Accuracy Over CA19-9Summary

open access: yesCellular and Molecular Gastroenterology and Hepatology, 2016
Background & Aims: The cancer antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) is the current best biomarker for pancreatic cancer, but it is not increased in approximately 25% of pancreatic cancer patients at a cut-off value that provides a 25% false-positive rate.

Expression of Lewis[x], sialylated Lewis[x], Lewis[a], and sialylated Lewis[a] antigens in human lung carcinoma

open access: yesThe Tohoku Journal of Experimental Medicine, 1991
One hundred and five cases of various human lung neoplasms were studied immunohistochemically using monoclonal antibodies recognizing the antigens, Le(x), sialylated Le(x) (SLEX), Le(a), and sialylated Le(a) (SLEA). Of the 92 lung cancers examined for antigen expression SLEX was detected in 57% (52 cases), Le(x) in 42% (39), SLEA in 36% (33), and Le(a)

A Structural-Reporter Group to Determine the Core Conformation of Sialyl Lewisx Mimetics

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
The d-GlcNAc moiety in sialyl Lewisx (sLex, 1) acts predominantly as a linker to position the d-Gal and the l-Fuc moieties in the bioactive spatial orientation.

Apple Pomace Pectin for Gastroprotective Nutraceutical Delivery: Structure–Function Relationships and Nano/Microencapsulation Strategies for Gastric Ulcer Management

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 4, July 2026.
Apple pomace pectin is explored as a sustainable and multifunctional biomaterial for gastric ulcer management. Its unique structural features confer mucoadhesive, anti‐inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti‐Helicobacter pylori activities while enabling nano/microencapsulation of therapeutic agents.

Diagnostic value of tumor markers in identifying favorable or unfavorable subsets in patients with cancer of unknown primary: a retrospective study

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2022
Background Routine measurement of tumor markers is not recommended in daily clinical practice for patients with cancer of unknown primary (CUP). We evaluated the diagnostic value of tumor markers in identifying favorable or unfavorable subsets in ...

Reprogramming the Immune Landscape of Inflammatory Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 36, 29 June 2026.
Inflammatory breast cancer is the most lethal subtype of breast cancer and is characterized by an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) driven by a complex network of immune cells and inflammatory cytokines, contributing to its aggressiveness and treatment challenges. Immune checkpoint inhibitors, either alone or in combination, show potential
