Aberrant Polycystin-1 Expression Results in Modification of Activator Protein-1 Activity, whereas Wnt Signaling Remains Unaffected [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Polycystin-1, the polycystic kidney disease 1 gene product, has been implicated in several signaling complexes that are known to regulate essential cellular functions. We investigated the role of polycystin-1 in Wnt signaling and activator protein-1 (

Regulation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 activation by dual-specificity phosphatase 3

open access: yesBMB Reports, 2020
Since cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide, there is an urgent need to understand the mechanisms underlying cancer progression and the development of cancer inhibitors. Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is a major transcription factor that regulates the proliferation and survival of various cancer cells.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Inhibition of Stat3 Signaling Pathway by Natural Product Pectolinarigenin Attenuates Breast Cancer Metastasis

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2019
Background: Breast cancer is the most common female cancer with considerable metastatic potential, which urges the need for developing novel potential drug candidate to inhibit tumor metastasis.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Differential Tissue Response to Growth Hormone in Mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Growth hormone (GH) has been shown to act directly on multiple tissues throughout the body. Historically, it was believed that GH acted directly in the liver and only indirectly in other tissues via insulin‐like growth hormone 1 (IGF‐1).

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

miR-519a enhances chemosensitivity and promotes autophagy in glioblastoma by targeting STAT3/Bcl2 signaling pathway

open access: yesJournal of Hematology & Oncology, 2018
Background Chemoresistance to temozolomide (TMZ) is a major challenge in the treatment of glioblastoma (GBM). We previously found that miR-519a functions as a tumor suppressor in glioma by targeting the signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (

Exosomes promote pre-metastatic niche formation in ovarian cancer. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Ovarian cancer is one of the most common gynecological malignancies. Upon initial diagnosis, the majority of patients present with widespread metastatic growth within the peritoneal cavity. This metastatic growth occurs in stages, with the formation of a

Signal transducers and activators of transcription 3 function in lung cancer

open access: yesJournal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics, 2013
Constitutively activation of signal transducers and activators of transcription 3 (STAT3) proteins are involved in multiple aberrant signaling pathway-oncogenic pathways, including pathways regulating tumor cell survival. STAT3 is one of the second messengers in the Janus activated family kinases/STAT signaling pathway and is regulated by many ...
