Hedgehog Signaling and Truncated GLI1 in Cancer
The hedgehog (HH) signaling pathway regulates normal cell growth and differentiation. As a consequence of improper control, aberrant HH signaling results in tumorigenesis and supports aggressive phenotypes of human cancers, such as neoplastic ...

Signals and Signal Processing for the Electrophysiologist [PDF]
In part II of this series, using the background covered in part I on electrogram acquisition and signal processing, we discuss potential errors in mapping because of artifact or inappropriate filtering of signals that may lead to unsuitable selection of ablation sites. ### Saturation Artifact If a 3-mV peak signal is being amplified at a gain of 5000,

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Cardiac cAMP-PKA Signaling Compartmentalization in Myocardial Infarction
Under physiological conditions, cAMP signaling plays a key role in the regulation of cardiac function. Activation of this intracellular signaling pathway mirrors cardiomyocyte adaptation to various extracellular stimuli.

Heterozygous TRPV6 mutations, which reduce significantly the Ca2+-permeability of the channel, lead to chronic pancreatitis and, if both TRPV6-alleles are affected, to skeletal dysplasia with neonatal transient hyperparathyroidism (TNHP) of newborns.

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Oncogenic and Tumor-Suppressive Functions of NOTCH Signaling in Glioma
Although the role of NOTCH signaling has been extensively studied in health and disease, many questions still remain unresolved. Being crucial for tissue homeostasis, NOTCH signaling is also implicated in multiple cancers by either promoting or ...

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
