Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Adherence between steel bars and lightweight concrete with EPS beads

open access: yesRevista IBRACON de Estruturas e Materiais
This paper describes the adherence behavior of a structural lightweight concrete with EPS beads (SLCEB) in a monotonic loading, based in a bibliographic review and in pull-out tests.

Edge effect factor affecting the tribological properties in water of protrusion surface textures on stainless steel

open access: yesBiosurface and Biotribology, 2018
Surface textures have been demonstrated to have a positive effect on the friction reduction. However, sharp edges of the normally textured patterns usually cause stress concentration and severe wear during sliding, especially for non-conformal contacting

Almost-Smooth Histograms and Sliding-Window Graph Algorithms

open access: yes, 2020
We study algorithms for the sliding-window model, an important variant of the data-stream model, in which the goal is to compute some function of a fixed-length suffix of the stream.

Monitoring of circulating tumor DNA allows early detection of disease relapse in patients with operable breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Monitoring circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in patients with operable breast cancer can reveal disease relapse earlier than radiology in a subset of patients. The failure to detect ctDNA in some patients with recurrent disease suggests that ctDNA could serve as a supplement to other monitoring approaches.

Comparison of Perturbed Reynolds Equation and CFD Models for the Prediction of Dynamic Coefficients of Sliding Bearings

open access: yesLubricants, 2018
The accuracy and utility of rotordynamic models for machinery systems are greatly affected by the accuracy of the constituent dynamic bearing models.

LINC01116, a hypoxia‐lncRNA marker of pathological lymphangiogenesis and poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

The Effect of Water on the Tribological Properties of Aviation Lubricants

open access: yesTribology in Industry
The influence of water and ice on the performance properties of lubricants is analysed. The tribotechnical properties of Era VNIINP 286M and AeroShell Grease 33 aviation lithium greases at low temperatures, in the presence of water in the grease, are ...

ATF4‐mediated stress response as a therapeutic vulnerability in chordoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We screened 5 chordoma cell lines against 100+ inhibitors of epigenetic and metabolic pathways and kinases and identified halofuginone, a tRNA synthetase inhibitor. Mechanistically halofuginone induces an integrated stress response, with eIF2alpha phosphorylation, activation of ATF4 and its target genes CHOP, ASNS, INHBE leading to cell death ...

Modeling and Lyapunov-designed based on adaptive gain sliding mode control for wind turbines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper, modeling and the Lyapunov-designed control approach are studied for the Wind Energy Conversion Systems (WECS). The objective of this study is to ensure the maximum energy production of a WECS while reducing the mechanical stress on the ...
