Mechanical Insights Into Polymeric Multilayers Films Using Nanoindentation and the Structural Compliance Method

open access: yesStrain, Volume 62, Issue 2, April 2026.
This study applies nanoindentation to resolve layer‐specific mechanical properties in photovoltaic backsheet multilayer polymers. Structural compliance correction reduces substrate flexure and edge artefacts, enabling reliable hardness and modulus mapping.

Compressible Flow Exfoliation of Two‐Dimensional Nanomaterials: Insights Into Layer Separation Informed by Gas Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 6, 18 March 2026.
This study elucidates the mechanism of compressible flow exfoliation for producing 2D hexagonal boron nitride (h‐BN). Fluid dynamics analysis reveals that acceleration‐driven aerodynamic shear forces, rather than shock waves alone, drive effective layer separation.

Diabetes‐induced vascular calcification is associated with low pyrophosphate and its oral supplementation prevents calcification in diabetic mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 16, Issue 3, Page 474-486, March 2026.
Induction of diabetes in three different mouse strains uniformly resulted in an increase in TNAP activity and a reduction in pyrophosphate (PPi) in the circulation. Inhibition of TNAP restored plasma PPi. Diabetes‐induced calcification in the media layer of the aorta was detected only in the Abcc6−/− strain, which is predisposed to ectopic ...

Mineralized area of the human rib cross‐sections from early puberty until adulthood

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 309, Issue 3, Page 649-656, March 2026.
Abstract Ribs undergo numerous changes during growth and development. Although they occur both externally and internally, the latter are not as extensively documented during the transition from puberty to adulthood. Therefore, it is unknown how rib cross‐sectional mineralized area changes during this period.

Real‐Time MRI With Deep Learning for Efficient Evaluation of Neuromuscular Breathing Impairment

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2026.
Breathing impairment is an important and common symptom in neuromuscular disorders. Reliable diagnostics are highly warranted. Real‐time MRI and deep learning‐based lung segmentation were used to analyze respiratory mechanics in patients with Pompe disease, a myopathy with diaphragmatic weakness, compared to healthy controls.
