Involvement of complexin 2 in docking, locking and unlocking of different SNARE complexes during sperm capacitation and induced acrosomal exocytosis.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Acrosomal exocytosis (AE) is an intracellular multipoint fusion reaction of the sperm plasma membrane (PM) with the outer acrosomal membrane (OAM). This unique exocytotic event enables the penetration of the sperm through the zona pellucida of the oocyte.

HOPS catalyzes the interdependent assembly of each vacuolar SNARE into a SNARE complex

open access: yesMolecular Biology of the Cell, 2017
Rab GTPases, their effectors, SNAREs of the R, Qa, Qb, and Qc families, and SM SNARE-binding proteins catalyze intracellular membrane fusion. At the vacuole/lysosome, they are integrated by the homotypic fusion and vacuole protein sorting (HOPS) complex.

Mixed‐class J‐domain protein scaffolds promote expanded aggregate handling and multivalent Hsp70 engagement during functional disaggregase assembly

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Sec3 promotes the initial binary t-SNARE complex assembly and membrane fusion

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Membrane fusion during exocytosis is mediated by interaction between SNARE proteins on vesicles and the cell membrane, but how SNARE complex assembly is initiated remains unknown.

The nature of the Syntaxin4 C-terminus affects Munc18c-supported SNARE assembly. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Vesicular transport of cellular cargo requires targeted membrane fusion and formation of a SNARE protein complex that draws the two apposing fusing membranes together. Insulin-regulated delivery and fusion of glucose transporter-4 storage vesicles at the

Stochastic RNA editing of the Complexin C-terminus within single neurons regulates neurotransmitter release

open access: yesCell Reports, 2023
Summary: Neurotransmitter release requires assembly of the SNARE complex fusion machinery, with multiple SNARE-binding proteins regulating when and where synaptic vesicle fusion occurs.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Phosphoinositides and SNARE chaperones synergistically assemble and remodel SNARE complexes for membrane fusion [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2009
Yeast vacuole fusion requires 4 SNAREs, 2 SNARE chaperone systems (Sec17p/Sec18p/ATP and the HOPS complex), and 2 phosphoinositides, phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate [PI(3)P] and phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate [PI(4,5)P 2 ].

Dysfunction of the SNARE complex in neurological and psychiatric disorders

open access: yesPharmacological Research, 2021
The communication between neurons constitutes the basis of all neural activities, and synaptic vesicle exocytosis is the fundamental biological event that mediates most communication between neurons in the central nervous system. The SNARE complex is the core component of the protein machinery that facilitates the fusion of synaptic vesicles with ...
