Boron neutron capture therapy: Preliminary study of BNCT with sodium borocaptate (Na2B1 2H1 1SH) on glioblastoma

Journal of Neuro-Oncology, 1997
To plan the optimal BNCT using BSH for glioblastoma patients, the 10B concentration in tumor and blood was investigated in 11 newly diagnosed glioblastoma patients. All patients received 20 mg BSH/kg body weight 2.5-16 hrs prior to tumor removal. The quantitative distribution of 10B was determined by prompt gamma ray spectrometry and/or alpha-track ...

The Biodistribution of Boron in Canine Spontaneous Intracranial Tumors Following Borocaptate Sodium Infusion

1992
Dogs with naturally-occurring, intracranial tumors were chosen as a model for evaluating the pharmacokinetics and biodistribution of boron using a single dose, intravenous administration of borocaptate sodium (Na2B12H11SH or BSH). Biologic variability was high with this model because of differences in tumor type, stage, location, and size. However, the

Delivery of sodium borocaptate to glioma cells using immunoliposome conjugated with anti-EGFR antibodies by ZZ-His

Biomaterials, 2009
Nanoparticles are effective of delivering cargo into cells. Here, sodium borocaptate (BSH) was encapsulated in liposomes composed of nickel lipid, and anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) antibodies were conjugated to the liposomes using the antibody affinity motif of protein A (ZZ) as an adaptor (immunoliposomes). The immunoliposomes were used

The diuretic effect of borocaptate sodium in rats and in patients with brain tumors.

Methods and findings in experimental and clinical pharmacology, 1998
Kidney function changes after single-dose administration of borocaptate sodium were studied in rats and in patients with brain tumors. Changes of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) measured as 14C-inulin clearance and urine flow rate (UFR) after a slow intravenous injection of BSH (25 and 50 mg/kg b.w., respectively) were investigated in rats under ...

Subcellular Biodistribution of Sodium Borocaptate (BSH: Na2B12H11SH) in a Rat Glioma Model in Boron Neutron Capture Therapy

Journal of Neuro-Oncology, 2002
Mercaptoundecahydrododecaborate (Na2B12H111SH, sodium borocaptate or 'BSH') has been used clinically as a boron compound for boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) in patients with malignant glioma in Japan and Europe. Boron-10 is known to accumulate selectively only in brain tumor cells.

Sodium Borocaptate and Boronopheynlalanine Alone or in Combination as Capture Agents for BNCT of the F98 Rat Glioma

1996
Sodium borocaptate (Na2B12H11SH, designated as “BSH”) has been used clinically in Japan for over 25 years by Hatanaka et al. as a capture agent for boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) of brain tumors.1 Independently, p — boronophenylalanine (BPA), which originally had been synthesized by Snyder2, has been used clinically by Mishima et al. as a capture

The in vitro effect of sodium mercaptoundecahydrododecaborate (borocaptate) on sulfhydryl groups of different rat tissues.

Methods and findings in experimental and clinical pharmacology, 1995
The effect of borocaptate on structural protein sulfhydryl (SH) groups of different organs and kidney subcellular fractions was studied in vitro. It was shown that the binding capacity of borocaptate is not the same for different tissues and subcellular fractions.

Boron Neutron Capture Therapy of Brain Tumors: Biodistribution, Pharmacokinetics, and Radiation Dosimetry of Sodium Borocaptate in Patients with Gliomas

Neurosurgery, 2000
ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to obtain tumor and normal brain tissue biodistribution data and pharmacokinetic profiles for sodium borocaptate (Na2B12H11SH) (BSH), a drug that has been used clinically in Europe and Japan for boron neutron capture therapy of brain tumors.

Optimal detection of the neutron capture therapy agent borocaptate sodium (BSH): A comparison between 1H and 10B NMR

Medical Physics, 2001
Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT), an experimental binary cancer treatment modality, requires selective targeting of 10B containing compounds to tumors. One of the compounds under evaluation in an EORTC phase I trial, and used in Japan for patient treatments for many years, is borocaptate sodium (BSH, also known as sulfhydril boron hydride).

Pharmacokinetics of Borocaptate Sodium in Canine Head Determined by 11B Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy

1993
As new boron compounds are introduced for BNCT, requirements to conduct pharmacokinetic studies more quickly and noninvasively will intensify. The purpose of this paper is to present a method for determining the in vivo distribution and kinetics of Na2B12H11SH (Borocaptate Sodium or BSH) and to monitor it’s deployment in real time.
