Differences in Sodium Channel Densities in the Apical Dendrites of Pyramidal Cells of the Electrosensory Lateral Line Lobe

open access: yesFrontiers in Neural Circuits, 2019
Heterogeneity of neural properties within a given neural class is ubiquitous in the nervous system and permits different sub-classes of neurons to specialize for specific purposes.

GABA-B controls persistent Na+ current and coupled Na+-activated K+ current [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The GABA-B receptor is densely expressed throughout the brain and has been implicated in many CNS functions and disorders, including addiction, epilepsy, spasticity, schizophrenia, anxiety, cognitive deficits, and depression, as well as various aspects ...

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Switch From Fetal to Adult SCN5A Isoform in Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell–Derived Cardiomyocytes Unmasks the Cellular Phenotype of a Conduction Disease–Causing Mutation

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2017
BackgroundHuman induced pluripotent stem cell–derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC‐CMs) can recapitulate features of ion channel mutations causing inherited rhythm disease.

Animal toxins: what features differentiate pore blockers from gate modifiers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A surprisingly large number of animal toxins target voltage sensitive ion channels. Even though there exists toxins for all four major voltage sensitive ion channels, a majority act either on sodium or potassium channels.

The PI3Kδ inhibitor roginolisib (IOA‐244) preserves T‐cell function and activity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Identification of novel PI3K inhibitors with limited immune‐related adverse effects is highly sought after. We found that roginolisib and idelalisib inhibit chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells and Treg suppressive functions to similar extents, but roginolisib affects cytotoxic T‐cell function and promotion of pro‐inflammatory T helper subsets to a

High-threshold mechanosensitive ion channels blocked by a novel conopeptide mediate pressure-evoked pain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Little is known about the molecular basis of somatosensory mechanotransduction in mammals. We screened a library of peptide toxins for effects on mechanically activated currents in cultured dorsal root ganglion neurons.

Deletion of annexin 2 light chain p11 in nociceptors causes deficits in somatosensory coding and pain behavior [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The S100 family protein p11 (S100A10, annexin 2 light chain) is involved in the trafficking of the voltage-gated sodium channel Na(V)1.8, TWIK-related acid-sensitive K+ channel (TASK-1), the ligand-gated ion channels acid-sensing ion channel 1a (ASIC1a ...

The photoswitchable cannabinoid azo‐HU308 enables optical control of Ca2+ dynamics in INS‐1 β‐cells via off‐target effects on TRPC channels

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Light activation of the photoswitchable cannabinoid ligand azo‐HU308 triggers Ca2+ influx in pancreatic β‐cells through TRPC channels, independent of CB2 cannabinoid receptors. This reveals a non‐GPCR pathway for cannabinoid modulation of β‐cell Ca2+ dynamics and establishes azo‐HU308 as an optical tool to study cannabinoid signaling through TRP ...

Targeting ion channel networks in diabetic kidney disease: from molecular crosstalk to precision therapeutics and clinical innovation

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
Diabetic kidney disease (DKD), a major microvascular complication of diabetes, is closely associated with functional imbalances in ion channels regulating sodium (Na+), calcium (Ca2+), potassium (K+), and chloride (Cl–).
