Oxygen solubility and permeability of carbohydrates

Carbohydrate Research, 2005
The saturated oxygen concentration in a series of aqueous solutions of sorbitol (up to 35% w/w) and maltitol (up to 50% w/w) was measured using colorimetric reagent vials based on Rhodazine D. The results indicate that the solubility of oxygen in low-water carbohydrates is considerably lower than its solubility in pure water.

Soluble Carbohydrates of Fruit Plants

Nature, 1950
IN the course of an investigation of the organic constituents of fruit plants, the soluble carbohydrates of shoots of apple, plum, etc., have been under investigation by the method of paper chromatography, using as solvents butanol–acetic acid–water (4 : 1 : 5)1, butanol–ethanol–water (4 : 1 : 5)2 and ethyl acetate–acetic acid–water (3 : 1 : 3)3 ...

Methanol-soluble Carbohydrate Complexes

Nature, 1959
WE have found that carbohydrates of low molecular weight are generally highly soluble in concentrated solutions of anhydrous calcium chloride in cold absolute methanol. After some time, crystalline methanol-solvated complexes of calcium chloride and carbohydrate are deposited. Such solutions and methanol-solvated complexes have not been reported before.

Effect of carbohydrate on protein solubility

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1983
The effect of covalently attached carbohydrate on the solubility of a number of proteins has been examined by the PEG precipitation technique. Both increases and decreases in solubility are observed depending on the state of glycosylation, the type of protein, and temperature.

Solubility of carbohydrates in heavy water

Carbohydrate Research, 2012
The solubility of several mono-(glucose and xylose), di-(sucrose and maltose), tri-(raffinose) and cyclic (α-cyclodextrin) saccharides in H(2)O and in D(2)O were measured over a range of temperatures. The solution enthalpies for the different carbohydrates in the two solvents were determined using the vant' Hoff equation and the values in D(2)O are ...

The carbohydrates in grass. I. The soluble carbohydrates

Recueil des Travaux Chimiques des Pays-Bas, 1949
AbstractA method is worked out according to which a separate determination of aldoses, fructose, sucrose and fructosan in grass is possible. The contents of these substances in relation to the age of the grass are determined; the fructosan content passed through a peak.Evidence was obtained that the sucrose content was highest on bright sunny days ...

Soluble carbohydrates of liverworts

Phytochemistry, 1986
Abstract Five soluble carbohydrates, (−)- l -bornesitol, (−)- d -mannitol, (+)- d -glucose, (+)-sucrose and (+)-trehalose, have been isolated as their acetyl derivatives from the liverwort, Mylia taylorii. The absolute configuration of these carbohydrates is the same as that of sugars found in vascular plants, although the liverwort sesquiterpenoids ...
