Water-Soluble Carbohydrates in Johnsongrass

Weed Science, 1974
Studies were conducted to characterize qualitatively and quantitatively the water-soluble carbohydrates in johnsongrass[Sorghum halepense(L.) Pers.]. Glucose, fructose, and sucrose were the only sugars detected in other than trace amounts in leaves, culms, or rhizomes.

Polydextrose as Soluble Fiber and Complex Carbohydrate

1999
Foods containing resistant oligosaccharides (RO) are growing in popularity with health-conscious consumers. RO are resistant to hydrolysis by human alimentary enzymes and reach the lower intestine. Recent literature is focusing attention on the positive physiological effects of RO (1-6) as both fiber and complex carbohydrate.

Determination of water‐soluble carbohydrates in grass

Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 1964
AbstractA simple method involving a single extraction procedure is given for the determination of water‐soluble carbohydrates (sugars + fructosans) in grasses. Factors such as storage of grass samples and clarification, hydrolysis and storage of extracts are discussed. The method is likely to have a routine application in silage studies where a measure

Soluble carbohydrates of developing lupin seeds

Phytochemistry, 1983
Abstract The sequence of formation of monosaccharides and raffinose series oligosaccharides in the developing seeds of two lupin species ( Lupinus albus cv Ultra and Lupinus angustifolius cv Unicrop) has been determined. Sucrose and glucose were the only sugars detected immediately after anthesis and the deposition of the higher members of the ...

Phosphorus, soluble carbohydrates and endomycorrhizal infection

Soil Biology and Biochemistry, 1983
Abstract The effect of phosphorus supply on concentrations of soluble carbohydrate within roots and on the development of mycorrhizas on subterranean clover was examined in two glasshouse experiments. Where increasing phosphorus supply decreased the percentage of root length converted to mycorrhizas, it also decreased the concentrations of soluble ...

SOLUBLE CARBOHYDRATES OF WHEAT STEMS AND LEAVES

Canadian Journal of Botany, 1957
Chromatographic evidence indicated that glucose, fructose, and sucrose were present in wheat stems and leaves at stages of growth from early shot blade to maturity. A number of non-reducing oligosaccharides soluble in 80% ethanol were also present in both leaves and stems during this period.

Water-Soluble Carbohydrates in Dried Plant

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 1996
Within the framework of studying the fructan metabolism of wheat, several comparative investigations of different preparation and extraction methods were accomplished to find the most suitable methods for quantitative determination of primary water-soluble carbohydrate contents of plant material.

Genotypic variation in water-soluble carbohydrate accumulation in wheat

Functional Plant Biology, 2006
The water-soluble carbohydrate (WSC) that accumulates in the stems of wheat during growth can be an important contributor to grain filling, particularly under conditions when assimilation is limited, such as during end-of-season drought. WSC concentration was measured at anthesis across a diverse set of wheat genotypes over multiple environments ...

Fat-soluble vitamins and rat diaphragm carbohydrate metabolism

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1965
Abstract Rat hemidiaphragms were incubated in phosphate-saline medium containing 120 mg% glucose, and the mean differences in Q O 2 , glucose utilization, and glycogen content were ascertained in the presence of the fat-soluble vitamins. Of the latter, high levels of synthetic A acetate, D 2 , and dl -α-tocopheryl acetate, each introduced in 1,2 ...

A soluble specific carbohydrate of ragweed pollen

Journal of Allergy, 1931
Abstract Evidence is presented showing the presence of a complex carbohydrate in ragweed pollen. This substance reacts specifically in the skin and nasal mucosa of ragweed-sensitive individuals.
