A number of investigators have reported that there are detectably elevated levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and soluble IL-6 receptor (sIL-6R) in the synovial fluids of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. However, the precise role of IL-6 and sIL-6R in the pathogenesis of RA remains unclear.

Serum-Soluble IL-2 Receptor and IL-6 Levels in Patients with Melanoma
Oncology, 2009Elevated soluble IL-2 receptor (sIL-2R) and IL-6 serum concentrations have been reported as adverse prognostic factors in several types of cancer. In order to determine whether these factors are predictive of metastatic progression in melanoma, sIL-2R and IL-6 levels were measured in sera from 172 patients with melanoma and 60 in healthy controls. Mean

DNA Sequence, 1995
A polymerase chain reaction assay (Lust J.A. et al. (1992). Cytokine 4:96-100) was used to detect a mRNA coding for a soluble IL-6 receptor in human hepatoma cells. In addition to the expected amplification product, we found a sequence (SR4) which could be aligned to it with 78% identity. After cloning and sequencing a genomic 2.5-2.7 kB EcoRI fragment

Soluble IL-6 Receptor in Vitreous Fluid of Patients with Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy
Japanese Journal of Ophthalmology, 2007To identify the biological reaction of soluble interleukin-6 receptor (sIL-6R) in the vitreous of patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR).The subjects were 45 patients (45 eyes) with vitreoretinal diseases. The patients were divided into three groups: the PDR group comprised 28 patients (28 eyes) with PDR; the pre-proliferative diabetic ...

Purification and Characterization of Soluble Human IL-6 Receptor Expressed in CHO Cells
The Journal of Biochemistry, 1990An immunosorbent assay system to detect genetically engineered IL-6 receptor (IL-6R) was established, whereby soluble IL-6 receptor (sIL-6R) was detected in the culture medium when sIL-6R cDNA was transfected into COS1 cells. A stably transformed Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell line constitutively expressing sIL-6R has been established.

The soluble IL-6 receptors: serum levels and biological function.
Cellular and molecular biology (Noisy-le-Grand, France), 2002IL-6 exerts its biological activities through interaction with specific receptors expressed on the surface of target cells. IL-6 binds first to a low-affinity (10(-9) M) subunit, a 80 kDa glycoprotein also called gp80 or IL-6R alpha. The IL-6/IL-6R alpha complex recruits the signal-transducing b subunit, a 130 kDa glycoprotein called gp130.
