Exploring Metabolic and Gut Microbiome Responses to Paraquat Administration in Male Wistar Rats: Implications for Oxidative Stress

open access: yesAntioxidants
In this study, we examined the metabolic and gut microbiome responses to paraquat (PQ) in male Wistar rats, focusing on oxidative stress effects. Rats received a single intraperitoneal injection of PQ at 15 and 30 mg/kg, and various oxidative stress ...

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery Induces Distinct but Frequently Transient Effects on Acylcarnitine, Bile Acid and Phospholipid Levels

open access: yesMetabolites, 2018
Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is an effective method to achieve sustained weight loss, but the mechanisms responsible for RYGB effects have not yet been fully characterized.

Engineered GM1 Intersects Between Mitochondrial and Synaptic Pathways to Ameliorate ALS Pathology

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease driven by genetic and molecular disruptions affecting energy balance, protein homeostasis, and stress responses in nerve cells. Studies using human and rodent models identified convergent defects in mitochondria and synaptic function.

Circulating ceramides and sphingomyelins and the risk of incident cardiovascular disease among people with diabetes: the strong heart study

open access: yesCardiovascular Diabetology, 2022
Background Plasma ceramides and sphingomyelins have been independently linked to diabetes risk, glucose and insulin levels, and the risk of several cardiovascular (CVD) outcomes.

Cohort‐Scale Spatial Autocorrelation for Tumor Prediction in Mid‐Infrared Pathology and Spatial Biomarker Discovery Using MALDI Imaging Lipidomics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Computational annotation of various tissue types in heterogeneous samples such as colorectal cancer liver metastasis (CRLM) using spatial autocorrelation analysis on non‐destructive mid‐infrared (MIR) imaging data enabled correlative multimodal mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) for spatial investigation of lipid tumor marker candidates. The method can be

GPX4 Inhibitor Resistance and Metastatic Features in Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study establishes breast cancer cell lines that are resistant to glutathione peroxidase 4 inhibitors (GPX4i) in vitro and investigates the metastatic capacity of the GPX4i‐resistant versus parental lines in vivo. GPX4i‐resistant cells survive upon intravenous injection, but lose capacity to spontaneously metastasize.

Hainan Longevity Model, Senile Degeneration, Cognitive Disability and Healthy Longevity

open access: yesAGING MEDICINE, EarlyView.
Investigating centenarians who exemplify healthy longevity can aid in formulating preventive strategies aimed at achieving health and extending lifespan in the context of population aging. Hainan longevity model (HLM) plays key roles in promoting healthy longevity and provides scientific evidence for achieving healthy longevity in the older population.

Partial synthesis and properties of a series of N-acyl sphingomyelins.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1987
A series of sphingomyelins (SM) with different chain length fatty acids (C14:0, C16:0, C18:0, C20:0, C22:0, and C24:0) N-linked to the primary amino group of sphingosine have been synthesized starting with bovine brain SM.

Associations among circulating sphingolipids, β-cell function, and risk of developing type 2 diabetes: A population-based cohort study in China.

open access: yesPLoS Medicine, 2020
BackgroundAnimal studies suggest vital roles of sphingolipids, especially ceramides, in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes (T2D) via pathways involved in insulin resistance, β-cell dysfunction, and inflammation, but human studies are limited.

High-Density Lipoprotein Lipidomics and Mortality in CKD

open access: yesKidney Medicine, 2023
Rationale & Objective: Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have dysfunctional high-density lipoprotein (HDL) particles that lack cardioprotective properties; altered lipid composition may be associated with these changes.
