Dimethylsphingosine Regulates Intracellular pH and Ca2+ Human Monocytes
.: Dimethylsphingosine (DMS) was first reported as an inhibitor of protein kinase C and later has been used as a specific inhibitor of sphingosine kinase.

Sphingosine kinase 1: A novel independent prognosis biomarker in hepatocellular carcinoma
Sphingosine kinase 1 (Sphk1) is an oncogenic kinase that is responsible for the phosphorylation of sphingosine to sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P). Mounting evidence suggests that Sphk1 serves a crucial role in the proliferation and development of a variety

Histiocytes: Multifaceted Regulators of Health and Disease
ABSTRACT The mononuclear phagocyte system encompasses macrophages, dendritic cells (DCs), and monocytes. Tissue‐resident macrophages and dendritic cells arise during embryogenesis and are replenished either through self‐renewal or by monocytes during inflammation.

Abstract Ageing is a risk factor for cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. The myogenic response in resistance arteries is responsible for basal (myogenic) tone and blood flow autoregulation. G‐protein‐coupled receptors and G12/RhoA/Rho kinase are implicated in myogenic tone (MT), and we aimed to clarify their role in pressure sensing and ...

Sphingosine kinase 1 mediates AGEs-induced fibronectin upregulation in diabetic nephropathy
Activation of sphingosine kinase 1 (SphK1) signaling pathway mediates fibronectin (FN) upregulation in glomerular mesangial cells (GMCs) under high glucose (HG) condition.

Sphingosine kinase 1 regulates measles virus replication
Measles virus (MV) manipulates host factors to facilitate virus replication. Sphingosine kinase (SK) is an enzyme catalyzing the formation of sphingosine 1-phosphate and modulates multiple cellular processes including the host defense system. Here, we determined the role of SK1 in MV replication. Overexpression of SK1 enhanced MV replication.

14‐3‐3 proteins: Regulators of cardiac excitation–contraction coupling and stress responses
Abstract figure legend 14‐3‐3 protein interactions in cardiac regulation. Schematic representation of 14‐3‐3 binding partners in excitation–contraction coupling, transcriptional regulation/development and stress response pathways. Asterisks indicate targets where the exact 14‐3‐3 binding site is unknown.

The presence of the signalling lipid Sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) in erythrocytes has unclear physiological implications. Here the authors show that the S1P-generating enzyme Sphingosine kinase type 1 and its product S1P play an important role in the ...

Sphingosine kinase 2 activates autophagy and protects neurons against ischemic injury through interaction with Bcl-2 via its putative BH3 domain [PDF]
Our previous findings suggest that sphingosine kinase 2 (SPK2) mediates ischemic tolerance and autophagy in cerebral preconditioning. The aim of this study was to determine by which mechanism SPK2 activates autophagy in neural cells.
