Transparent UV‐Curable Self‐Sanitizing Coatings Applicable to Diverse Surfaces and High‐Touch Screens to Mitigate Deadly Pathogen Transmission

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 35, 30 April 2026.
Development of a transparent, self‐sanitizing antimicrobial coating technology applicable to a wide range of materials and surfaces‐including touchscreens, transparent substrates, and metal, plastic, and glass‐regardless of pathogen type. The spray‐coated, UV‐cross‐linked imidazole‐based quaternary ammonium chloride materials provide broad‐spectrum ...

Protection from SARS coronavirus conferred by live measles vaccine expressing the spike glycoprotein

open access: yesVirology, 2014
The recent identification of a novel human coronavirus responsible of a SARS-like illness in the Middle-East a decade after the SARS pandemic, demonstrates that reemergence of a SARS-like coronavirus from an animal reservoir remains a credible threat. Because SARS is contracted by aerosolized contamination of the respiratory tract, a vaccine inducing ...

SARS-CoV-2 spike treatment and transfection impairs airway epithelial repair

open access: yesERJ Open Research
Background The airway epithelium serves as a physical and immune barrier against inhaled insults. This tissue is susceptible to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and, following injury, the airway epithelium undergoes ...

COVID-19: viral–host interactome analyzed by network based-approach model to study pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2 infection

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine, 2020
Background Epidemiological, virological and pathogenetic characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 infection are under evaluation. A better understanding of the pathophysiology associated with COVID-19 is crucial to improve treatment modalities and to develop ...

Antagonistic Ubiquitin Switching by USP7 and RNF40 Orchestrates KDM6A Homeostasis to License Coronavirus Susceptibility

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 23, 23 April 2026.
We identify an antagonistic ubiquitin circuit that controls cellular permissiveness to multiple coronaviruses. The deubiquitinase USP7 stabilizes the epigenetic regulator KDM6A to upregulate viral receptors, while the E3 ligase RNF40 degrades KDM6A by catalyzing K6/K11‐ubiquitin chains of KDM6A for autophagic degradation.

Sequence analysis reveals extensive polymorphism and evidence of deletions within the E2 glycoprotein gene of several strains of murine hepatitis virus. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Direct RNA sequence analysis of the E2 gene of wild-type MHV-4 and of neutralization resistant, neuroattenuated variants has identified a polymorphic region with respect to deletions.

Influenza virus morphogenesis and budding. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Influenza viruses are enveloped, negative stranded, segmented RNA viruses belonging to Orthomyxoviridae family. Each virion consists of three major sub-viral components, namely (i) a viral envelope decorated with three transmembrane proteins ...

From Immunization to Autoimmunity: A Deep Dive Into Post‐COVID‐19 Vaccine Reactions—A Narrative Review

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Coronavirus disease‐2019 (COVID‐19) emerged in 2019 from Wuhan, China, leading to the accelerated development of vaccines, which have proven instrumental in controlling the spread of the virus. While vaccination ceased the increasing trend of the viral infection, rare adverse autoimmune events emerged as important ...

Properties of Coronavirus IBV After Removal of the S1 Subunit of the Spike Glycoprotein [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
Our recent investigations of avian infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) have concentrated on the biological properties of the spike (S) glycoprotein. Previously we showed that the mature S is derived by cleavage of a precursor glycoprotein to yield two glycopolypeptides, S1 and S2 of approximately 514 and 625 amino acid residues respectively1.

Identification of sialic acid-binding function for the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus spike glycoprotein [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2017
Significance Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) recurrently infects humans from its dromedary camel reservoir, causing severe respiratory disease with an ∼35% fatality rate. The virus binds to the dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP4) entry receptor on respiratory epithelial cells via its spike protein.
