In Vitro Effects of Stachyose on the Human Gut Microbiota

Starch/Staerke, 2021
AbstractGut microbiota plays an important role in human health. Stachyose, an oligosaccharide, modulates the gut microbiota composition in animals. However, the role of stachyose in promoting the proliferation of probiotics and whether it inhibits pathogenic micro‐organisms in human gut microbiota has not been explored.

Study of Influential Factors on Oligosaccharide Formation by Fructosyltransferase Activity during Stachyose Hydrolysis by Pectinex Ultra SP-L

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2011
The influence of reaction conditions for oligosaccharide synthesis from stachyose using a commercial enzymatic preparation from Aspergillus aculeatus (Pectinex Ultra SP-L) was studied.

Sequential expression of raffinose synthase and stachyose synthase corresponds to successive accumulation of raffinose, stachyose and verbascose in developing seeds of Lens culinaris Medik.

Journal of Plant Physiology, 2021
Raffinose, stachyose and verbascose form the three major members of the raffinose family oligosaccharides (RFO) accumulated during seed development. Raffinose synthase (RS; EC 2.4.1.82) and stachyose synthase (STS; EC 2.4.1.67) have been associated with raffinose and stachyose synthesis, but the precise mechanism for verbascose synthesis is not well ...

The Proliferation Mechanism of Lactobacillus plantarum RB1 Stimulated by Stachyose

Current Microbiology, 2017
The proliferation mechanism of Lactobacillus plantarum RB1 promoted by stachyose was investigated in this work. The hydrolysis of stachyose, the glycometabolism, and the cytoactivity of L. plantarum RB1 were detected after proliferation. The specific activity of α-galactosidase of L.

Leguminosae in the diet: The raffinose-stachyose question

European Journal of Pediatrics, 1995
Adhering to a galactose-free diet by strictly avoiding dairy products and known hidden sources of galac-tose does not completely normalize galactose-1-phosphate (gal-1-P) in erythrocytes from patients with galactosemia. Major neurological complications, even in the best treated patients, are threatening a good clinical outcome and dictate a continuous ...

Distribution and immunolocalization of stachyose synthase in Cucumis melo L.

Planta, 1991
Indirect evidence for the site of stachyose biosynthesis has been provided by determining the occurrence and distribution of stachyose, raffinose and galactinol, the donor of the galactosyl moiety for stachyose synthesis, in Cucumis melo L. cv. Ranjadew.

Stachyose synthesis in mature leaves of Cucumis melo. Purification and characterization of stachyose synthase (EC 2.4.1.67)

Planta, 1991
Galactinol: raffinose-6-galactosyltransferase (EC 2.4.1.67), a stachyose synthase, was extracted from mature leaves of Cucumis melo cv. Ranjadew and was purified to homogeneity by (NH4)2SO4 precipitation, ion-exchange chromatography, gel-filtration and non-denaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. A specific activity of 516 μkat · mg(-1) and a 160-

Stachyose in the cytosol does not influence freezing tolerance of transgenic Arabidopsis expressing stachyose synthase from adzuki bean

Plant Science, 2011
We expressed the stachyose synthase from adzuki bean (Vigna angularis) in Arabidopsis thaliana, under the control of the constitutive CaMV 35S promoter. Transgenic lines had only trace amounts of stachyose under normal growth conditions but accumulated stachyose to similar levels as raffinose upon cold acclimation.

Stachyose synthesis in leaves of Cucurbita pepo

Phytochemistry, 1981
Abstract An enzyme synthesizing stachyose, galactinol-raffinose galactosyltransferase (EC2.4.1.67), has been purified ca 40-fold from mature leaves of Cucurbita pepo using ammonium sulphate precipitation, Sephadex gel filtration and DEAE-Sephadex gel chromatography.
