Challenges and hopes of gastrointestinal miRNA regulation: The example of stachyose

Cell Metabolism
There is growing evidence that micro-RNAs (miRNAs) are key players in the regulation of gut health. In this issue of Cell Metabolism, Li et al.1 uncovered that the dietary fiber stachyose can modulate the luminal miRNA load of the intestinal tracts by binding to HSP90β, thereby altering the gut's microbial composition.

Stachyose and mannitol transport in olive (Olea europaea L.)

Planta, 1993
Source leaves of Olea europea L. (olive) were photosynthetically labelled with 14CO2 and then transferred to 20 mM EDTA solutions to allow exudation of phloem sap. Label in phloem sap was recovered predominantly as stachyose (50–60% of the total label) while only small amounts of label were recovered in the sugar alcohol mannitol (less than 5%).

Agronomic and Seed Characteristics of Soybean with Reduced Raffinose and Stachyose

Crop Science, 2005
Monogastric animals cannot readily digest the raffinose and stachyose in soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.], which reduces the amount of metabolizable energy that can be obtained from soybean meal. Soybean cultivars homozygous for the recessive allele stc1a from PI200508 have a reduced content of raffinose and stachyose and an increased content of ...
