Distribution and immunolocalization of stachyose synthase in Cucumis melo L.

Planta, 1991
Indirect evidence for the site of stachyose biosynthesis has been provided by determining the occurrence and distribution of stachyose, raffinose and galactinol, the donor of the galactosyl moiety for stachyose synthesis, in Cucumis melo L. cv. Ranjadew.

Leguminosae in the diet: The raffinose-stachyose question

European Journal of Pediatrics, 1995
Adhering to a galactose-free diet by strictly avoiding dairy products and known hidden sources of galac-tose does not completely normalize galactose-1-phosphate (gal-1-P) in erythrocytes from patients with galactosemia. Major neurological complications, even in the best treated patients, are threatening a good clinical outcome and dictate a continuous ...

Stachyose synthesis in mature leaves of Cucumis melo. Purification and characterization of stachyose synthase (EC 2.4.1.67)

Planta, 1991
Galactinol: raffinose-6-galactosyltransferase (EC 2.4.1.67), a stachyose synthase, was extracted from mature leaves of Cucumis melo cv. Ranjadew and was purified to homogeneity by (NH4)2SO4 precipitation, ion-exchange chromatography, gel-filtration and non-denaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. A specific activity of 516 μkat · mg(-1) and a 160-

Stachyose in the cytosol does not influence freezing tolerance of transgenic Arabidopsis expressing stachyose synthase from adzuki bean

Plant Science, 2011
We expressed the stachyose synthase from adzuki bean (Vigna angularis) in Arabidopsis thaliana, under the control of the constitutive CaMV 35S promoter. Transgenic lines had only trace amounts of stachyose under normal growth conditions but accumulated stachyose to similar levels as raffinose upon cold acclimation.

Stachyose synthesis in leaves of Cucurbita pepo

Phytochemistry, 1981
Abstract An enzyme synthesizing stachyose, galactinol-raffinose galactosyltransferase (EC2.4.1.67), has been purified ca 40-fold from mature leaves of Cucurbita pepo using ammonium sulphate precipitation, Sephadex gel filtration and DEAE-Sephadex gel chromatography.

Estimation of sucrose, raffinose and stachyose in soybean seeds

Food Chemistry, 1985
Abstract Oligosaccharides have been analysed in extracts of soybean seed meal by HPLC using the Waters Dextropak C 18 reversed-phase column. A procedure employing aqueous extraction of meal, and immediate analysis of extracts without further treatment except for ultrafiltration with a 25 000 molecular weight cut-off filter has been found much more ...

Localization of galactinol, raffinose, and stachyose synthesis in Cucurbita pepo leaves

Planta, 1992
The biochemical pathway of stachyose synthesis was localized by immunocytochemical and (14)C-labeling techniques in mature Cucurbita pepo L. leaves. Galactinol synthase (GaS; EC 2.4.1.123), the first unique enzyme in this pathway, was immunolocalized within the intermediary cells of minor veins in conventionally fixed and cryo-fixed, resin-embedded ...

Raffinose and stachyose metabolism are not required for efficient soybean seed germination

Journal of Plant Physiology, 2009
Raffinose family oligosaccharides (RFOs), which include raffinose and stachyose, are thought to be an important source of energy during seed germination. In contrast to their potential for promoting germination, RFOs represent anti-nutritional units for monogastric animals when consumed as a component of feed.

[Pharmacokinetic study on absorption of stachyose].

Zhongguo Zhong xi yi jie he za zhi Zhongguo Zhongxiyi jiehe zazhi = Chinese journal of integrated traditional and Western medicine, 2002
To study the intestinal absorption and absorption site of stachyose, one of the oligosaccharides extracted from Rehmannia, in mice and rats.Plasma concentration of stachyose was measured by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with postcolumn fluorescence derivatization after administration of stachyose to mice by oral or intravenous injection.
