TRPC channels function independently of STIM1 and Orai1 [PDF]
Recent studies have defined roles for STIM1 and Orai1 as calcium sensor and calcium channel, respectively, for Ca2+‐release activated Ca2+ (CRAC) channels, channels underlying store‐operated Ca2+ entry (SOCE). In addition, these proteins have been suggested to function in signalling and constructing other channels with biophysical properties distinct ...

Key Components of Store-Operated Ca2+ Entry in Non-Excitable Cells
.: Store-operated Ca2+ entry (SOCE) is a ubiquitous Ca2+ entry pathway in non-excitable cells. It is activated by the depletion of Ca2+ from intracellular Ca2+ stores, notably the endoplasmic reticulum (ER).

Dysregulated Lipid Metabolism in Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Mechanisms and Therapeutic Strategies
Dysregulated lipid metabolism facilitates hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development, progression, immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) formation, and therapeutic resistance. Notably, the patterns of lipid metabolism vary significantly among different types of HCC driven by various etiologies.

Magnetic fields modulate macrophage‐cancer crosstalk through the STING‐TRPC1 axis. Exposure reprograms macrophages toward the anti‐cancer phenotype. Exposing cancer cells modulates cancer secretome to promote polarization and selective recruitment of M1‐tumoricidal macrophages, enhancing cancer immunogenicity.

ABSTRACT Low adiponectin levels may contribute to insulin resistance. This first‐in‐human study evaluated adiponectin receptor agonist (PEG)‐BHD1028 in subjects with insulin resistance. Adults with BMI ≥ 27 kg/m2, HOMA‐IR ≥ 1.8, and HbA1c < 6.5% received subcutaneous injections of (PEG)‐BHD1028 or placebo in single‐ascending dose (SAD) cohorts (4, 8 ...

Components and properties of Ca2+ buffers in astrocytes, which should be considered for data interpretation and in computational modeling of astrocyte Ca2+ activity. ABSTRACT Astrocytic Ca2+ signaling is essential for maintaining physiological brain function, including the modulation of synaptic transmission, neurovascular coupling, and ion homeostasis.

STIM1fl/fl Ksp-Cre Mouse has Impaired Renal Water Balance
Background/AIM: STIM1 is as an essential component in store operated Ca2+ entry. However give the paucity of information on the role of STIM1 in kidney, the aim was to study the function of STIM1 in the medulla of the kidney.

Calcium sensing by the STIM1 ER-luminal domain
Stromal interaction molecule 1 (STIM1) monitors ER-luminal Ca2 + levels to maintain cellular Ca2 + balance. Here the authors find that the STIM1 luminal domain monomer has multiple Ca2 + - binding sites which set the threshold for physiological ...

On page 1583, Varga-Szabo et al. show that platelets missing a calcium channel opener build puny, feeble clots that may actually save lives. Figure 1 Vessel-blocking clots (top) are avoided when platelets lack STIM1 (bottom). Platelets require calcium to initiate clotting in response to extracellular cues.

STIM1 Mediates Hypoxia-Driven Hepatocarcinogenesis via Interaction with HIF-1
Hypoxia and intracellular Ca2+ transients are fundamental traits of cancer, whereas the route and regulation of Ca2+ mobilization in hypoxic tumorigenesis are unknown.
