Vitamin A deficiency attenuates cardiac rupture in Stra6-deficient hearts following ischemic injury [PDF]
BackgroundStimulated by retinoic acid gene 6 (STRA6) is a cell surface receptor that regulates cellular uptake of vitamin A metabolites and cardiac development.

Crossing the Barrier: STRA6 in Epidermal Differentiation [PDF]
In this issue, Skazik et al. demonstrate that the STRA6 retinol transporter protein regulates the proliferation and differentiation of epidermal keratinocytes. In human organotypic three-dimensional skin and skin reconstitution models, depletion of STRA6 induced hyperproliferation-associated differentiation, resulting in epidermal expansion.

First implication ofSTRA6mutations in isolated anophthalmia, microphthalmia, and coloboma: A new dimension to theSTRA6phenotype [PDF]
Microphthalmia, anophthalmia, and coloboma (MAC) are structural congenital eye malformations that cause a significant proportion of childhood visual impairments. Several disease genes have been identified but do not account for all MAC cases, suggesting that additional risk loci exist.

Beyond a gatekeeper: the non-classical signaling role of STRA6 in driving endothelial senescence and atherosclerosis [PDF]
Endothelial cell (EC) senescence is a fundamental driver of atherosclerosis. This review posits that the primary pathogenic role of Stimulated by Retinoic Acid 6 (STRA6) in the endothelium is not its canonical vitamin A transport but its non-classical ...

STRA6 is critical for cellular vitamin A uptake and homeostasis [PDF]
Vitamin A must be adequately distributed within the body to maintain the functions of retinoids in the periphery and chromophore production in the eyes. Blood transport of the lipophilic vitamin is mediated by the retinol-binding protein, RBP4. Biochemical evidence suggests that cellular uptake of vitamin A from RBP4 is facilitated by a membrane ...

Single‐Cell and Bulk Transcriptomics Identify GNGT1‐High Malignant Epithelial Cells Associated With Immune Suppression in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma [PDF]
This study integrates single‐cell and bulk transcriptomes with machine learning to identify GNGT1 as an ESCC biomarker. Pan‐cancer, immune infiltration, pathway, and cell–cell communication analyses reveal TME associations. Exploratory treatment cohorts, in silico drug sensitivity, and molecular docking further support its therapeutic potential ...

BackgroundThe inverse relationship between GLUT4 and RBP4 expression is known to play a role in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes. Elevated levels of RBP4 were shown to cause insulin resistance in muscles and liver.

Structural and functional characterization of the retinol-binding protein receptor STRA6 [PDF]
Vitamin A is an essential nutrient; it is not synthesized by mammals and therefore must be obtained through the diet. During times of fasting or dietary vitamin A insufficiency, retinol, the alcohol form of the vitamin is released from the liver, its main storage tissue, for circulation in complex with retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP) to provide an ...

STRA6: key to inflammatory pathways in COVID-19
The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by SARS-CoV-2, has infected more than 260 million people worldwide, causing more than 5.2 million deaths. Unlike other viral infections, COVID-19 is characterized by widespread and severe systemic effects, immune dysregulation, pneumonia, ARDS, and multiple organ damage.
