Profiling the Genome-Wide Landscape of Short Tandem Repeats by Long-Read Sequencing

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2022
Background: Short tandem repeats (STRs) are highly variable elements that play a pivotal role in multiple genetic diseases and the regulation of gene expression. Long-read sequencing (LRS) offers a potential solution to genome-wide STR analysis. However,

Evaluation of nucleosome forming potentials (NFPs) of forensically important STRs

open access: yes, 2011
Degraded forensic samples have proved difficult to analyze and interpret. New analysis techniques are constantly being discovered and improved but researchers have overlooked the structural properties that could prevent or slow the process of degradation.

Population-Scale Polymorphic Short Tandem Repeat Provides an Alternative Strategy for Allele Mining in Cotton

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
Short tandem repeats (STRs), which vary in size due to featuring variable numbers of repeat units, are present throughout most eukaryotic genomes. To date, few population-scale studies identifying STRs have been reported for crops. Here, we constructed a

Y-STR Kits and Y-STR Diversity in the South African Population

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Science and Medicine, 2022
The South African population consists of four ethnic groups, i.e., Blacks, Coloreds, Indians, and Whites, and is considered the most diverse conglomeration of humans. In addition to autosomal short tandem repeat (STR) variation, an important tool to study population diversity is Y-chromosome (Y)-STR analysis.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Link between short tandem repeats and translation initiation site selection

open access: yesHuman Genomics, 2018
Background Despite their vast biological implication, the relevance of short tandem repeats (STRs)/microsatellites to the protein-coding gene translation initiation sites (TISs) remains largely unknown.
