Ashwagandha: Is It Safe? Part 2: A Preclinical Evidence Review

open access: yesPhytotherapy Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The preclinical evidence for the safety of ashwagandha (Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal, AS) is reviewed, and its preparations (extracts) and constituents, from the general toxicity in animal models to in vitro and cell culture studies, which may elucidate mechanisms of action and explain clinical case reports.

The role of glycinergic inhibition in respiratory pattern formation and cardio-respiratory coupling in rats

open access: yesCurrent Research in Physiology, 2021
Cardio-respiratory coupling is reflected as respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) and inspiratory-related bursting of sympathetic nerve activity. Inspiratory-related inhibitory and/or postinspiratory-related excitatory drive of cardiac vagal motoneurons ...

The oscillatory response of the electroretinogram and neuronal adaptation

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract After more than 50 years, there still remains a challenge and an interest to know more as well as extend and deepen our understanding of the small rapid wavelets, the oscillatory potentials (OPs), of the electroretinogram (ERG) and the neuronal adaptation of the retina.

Multi‐Omics Analyses Reveal the Red and Far‐Red Light Combination Enhancing Heterologous Protein and Metabolite Production in Nicotiana benthamiana

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Transient expression of exogenous protein in Nicotiana benthamiana leaves via agroinfiltration offers a rapid and efficient platform for functional gene discovery and heterologous production of valuable eukaryotic proteins and metabolites. Though light quality is an important factor for plant photomorphogenesis, its impact on the efficiency of

Predator Bounties in Western Canada Cause Animal Suffering and CompromiseWildlife Conservation Efforts

open access: yesAnimals, 2015
Although predation bounty programs (rewards offered for capturing or killing an animal) ended more than 40 years ago in Canada, they were reintroduced in Alberta in 2007 by hunting, trapping, and farming organizations, municipalities and counties, and in

Spin‐System‐Selective 2D J‐Spectroscopy

open access: yesChemistry–Methods, Volume 6, Issue 5, May 2026.
A new family of experiments is presented that extracts the spectra of individual spin systems. Spin‐system‐selective 2D J‐resolved (SSS2DJ) spectroscopy reveals chemical shift information at "pure shift" resolution, while retaining multiplet structure in a simple 2D spectrum.

Functional analysis of a bitter gustatory receptor highly expressed in the larval maxillary galea of Helicoverpa armigera.

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2022
Many plant secondary substances are feeding deterrents for insects and play a key role in the selection of host plants. The taste sensilla of phytophagous insects contain gustatory sensory neurons sensitive to deterrents but the molecular basis of ...
