Distinct Influence of Hypercaloric Diets Predominant with Fat or Fat and Sucrose on Adipose Tissue and Liver Inflammation in Mice

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
Overfeeding of a hypercaloric diet leads to obesity, diabetes, chronic inflammation, and fatty liver disease. Although limiting fat or carbohydrate intake is the cornerstone for obesity management, whether lowering fat or reducing carbohydrate intake is ...

Sucrose Metabolism in Plastids [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 2001
Abstract The question whether sucrose (Suc) is present inside plastids has been long debated. Low Suc levels were reported to be present inside isolated chloroplasts, but these were argued to be artifacts of the isolation procedures used.

Role of Sucrose-Phosphate Synthase in Sucrose Metabolism in Leaves [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1992
Sucrose is formed in the cytoplasm of leaf cells from triose phosphates exported from the chloroplast. Flux control is shared among key enzymes of the pathway, one of which is sucrose-phosphate synthase (SPS). Regulation of SPS by protein phosphorylation is important in vivo and may explain diurnal changes in SPS activity and carbon partitioning.

Sucrose Phosphate Synthase and Sucrose Accumulation at Low Temperature [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1992
The influence of growth temperature on the free sugar and sucrose phosphate synthase content and activity of spinach (Spinacia oleracea) leaf tissue was studied. When plants were grown at 25 degrees C for 3 weeks and then transferred to a constant 5 degrees C, sucrose, glucose, and fructose accumulated to high levels during a 14-d period. Predawn sugar

Microbial exopolysaccharide production by polyextremophiles in the adaptation to multiple extremes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Polyextremophiles are microorganisms that endure multiple extreme conditions by various adaptation strategies that also include the production of exopolysaccharides (EPSs). This review provides an integrated perspective on EPS biosynthesis, function, and regulation in these organisms, emphasizing their critical role in survival and highlighting their ...

Linked dimers of the AAA+ ATPase Msp1 reveal energetic demands and mechanistic plasticity for substrate extraction from lipid bilayers

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells must clear mislocalized or faulty proteins from membranes to survive. The AAA+ ATPase Msp1 performs this task, but dissecting how its six subunits work together is challenging. We engineered linked dimers with varied numbers of functional subunits to reveal how Msp1 subunits cooperate and use energy to extract proteins from the lipid bilayer ...

Effects of meteorological variables on sugarcane ripening in the Cauca river valley, Colombia

open access: yesPesquisa Agropecuária Tropical, 2020
Sugarcane ripening is conditioned by the interaction between biological factors of the crop and climate. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of some meteorological variables on the sucrose content, during the ripening period, in the Cauca river ...
