Discovery of a novel iota carrageenan sulfatase isolated from the marine bacterium Pseudoalteromonas carrageenovora

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2014
Carrageenans are sulfated polysaccharides extracted from the cell wall of some marine red algae. These polysaccharides are widely used as gelling, stabilizing, and viscosifying agents in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

The effect of organic management on soil quality indicators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
This report was presented at the UK Organic Research 2002 Conference. A range of physical, biological and chemical parameters were measured in organic soil that had been managed in different ways and in a conventional control.

Efficacy and safety of enzyme replacement therapy with BMN 110 (elosulfase alfa) for Morquio A syndrome (mucopolysaccharidosis IVA): a phase 3 randomised placebo-controlled study. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
ObjectiveTo assess the efficacy and safety of enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) with BMN 110 (elosulfase alfa) in patients with Morquio A syndrome (mucopolysaccharidosis IVA).MethodsPatients with Morquio A aged ≥5 years (N = 176) were randomised (1:1:

User‐friendly and Green Procedure for a Photoinduced Wohl‐Ziegler Reaction

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
A facile and ecofriendly catalyst‐free allylic and benzylic bromination method using a stoichiometric amount of NBS under LEDs light irradiation is described. This method provides an alternative to the Wohl‐Ziegler procedure which is classically performed in the presence of a radical initiator in the banned solvent CCl4.

Identification and Signature Sequences of Bacterial Δ4,5Hexuronate-2-O-Sulfatases

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Glycosaminoglycan (GAG) sulfatases, which catalyze the hydrolysis of sulfate esters from GAGs, belong to a large and conserved sulfatase family. Bacterial GAG sulfatases are essential in the process of sulfur cycling and are useful for the structural ...

Structurally-related (−)-epicatechin metabolites in humans: assessment using de novo chemically synthesized authentic standards [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Accumulating data suggest that diets rich in flavanols and procyanidins are beneficial for human health. In this context, there has been a great interest in elucidating the systemic levels and metabolic profiles at which these compounds occur in humans ...

A Simple Method for On-Gel Detection of Myrosinase Activity

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
Myrosinase is an enzyme present in many functional foods and spices, particularly in Cruciferous vegetables. It hydrolyses glucosinolates which thereafter rearrange into bioactive volatile constituents (isothiocyanates, nitriles).

The pmrCAB Operon Mediates Polymyxin Resistance In Acinetobacter Baumannii ATCC 17978 And Clinical Isolates Through Phosphoethanolamine Modification Of Lipid A [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The emergence of multidrug resistance among Acinetobacter baumannii is leading to an increasing dependence on the use of polymyxins as last-hope antibiotics. Here, we utilized genetic and biochemical methods to define the involvement of the pmrCAB operon

The estrobolome: Estrogen‐metabolizing pathways of the gut microbiome and their relation to breast cancer

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
Abstract Increasing evidence links the gut microbiome to carcinogenesis. Disruptions in estrogen regulation by the estrobolome—gut microbiota with estrogen‐related functions—may promote breast cancer. However, precise information on estrobolome targets and their underlying mechanisms is limited. This review identifies relevant targets for measuring the

A novel amino acid modification in sulfatases that is defective in multiple sulfatase deficiency

open access: yesCell, 1995
Multiple sulfatase deficiency (MSD) is a lysosomal storage disorder characterized by a decreased activity of all known sulfatases. The deficiency of sulfatases was proposed to result from the lack of a co- or posttranslational modification that is common to all sulfatases and required for their catalytic activity.
