Sulfated galactosylceramides (sulfatides) are glycosphingolipids associated with cholesterol- and sphingolipid-enriched membrane microdomains (lipid rafts) and are highly expressed in brain tissue.

Galectin-4 and sulfatides in apical membrane trafficking in enterocyte-like cells
We have previously reported that 1-benzyl-2-acetamido-2-deoxy--D-galactopyranoside (GalNAc-O-bn), an inhibitor of glycosylation, perturbed apical biosynthetic trafficking in polarized HT-29 cells suggesting an involvement of a lectin-based mechanism ...

ANALYSIS OF SULFATIDES IN BIOLOGICAL SAMPLES USING MALDI MASS SPECTROMETRY

Sulfatides mediate Disabled-2 membrane localization and stability during platelet aggregation
Thrombosis, the major cause of heart attack and strokes,1 is triggered by localized clotting of the blood as the result of deregulated platelet aggregation. During the repair of vascular injury, clotting usually occurs when platelets adhere to each other

Sulfatides have been established recently as ligands for L-selectin, and we investigated whether they trigger transmembrane signals through ligation of L-selectin. We found that sulfatides trigger the increase of cytosolic free calcium in neutrophils and

The two main foci herein are the preparation of sulfatides that activate a subset of type II natural killer T (NKT) cells and the synthesis and exploitation of the reactivity of unusual strained heterocycles.

Laminin-dependent and laminin-independent adhesion of human melanoma cells to sulfatides
Sulfatides (galactosylceramide-I3-sulfate) but not neutral glycolipids or gangliosides adsorbed on plastic promote adhesion of the human melanoma cell line G361. Direct adhesion of G361 cells requires densities of sulfatide greater than 1 pmol/mm2.
