Photochemical reactivity of zinc tetraphenylporphyrin induced by nonstoichiometric CdS nanoparticles in 2-propanol

open access: yesInternational Journal of Photoenergy, 2001
The photoreactivity of zinc tetraphenylporphyrin (ZnTPP) in the presence of photoexcited CdS nanoparticles and molecular oxygen in 2-propanol has been revisited.

Arginine-specific gingipains (RgpA/RgpB) knockdown modulates neutrophil machinery

open access: yesJournal of Oral Microbiology
Background Gingipains are important virulence factors present in Porphyromonas gingivalis. Arginine-specific gingipains (RgpA and RgpB) are critically associated with increased proteolytic activity and immune system dysfunction, including neutrophilic ...

Pulse radiolysis studies on superoxide reductase from Treponema pallidum [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Elsevier, 2001, 497, pp.171-3, 2015
Superoxide reductases (SORs) are small metalloenzymes, which catalyze reduction of O2*- to H2O2. The reaction of the enzyme from Treponema pallidum with superoxide was studied by pulse radiolysis methods. The first step is an extremely fast bi-molecular reaction of the ferrous center with O2, with a rate constant of 6 x 10 (8) M(-1) s(-1).

Radical pairs and superoxide amplification can explain magnetic field effects on planarian regeneration [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Weak magnetic field exposure can affect many biological processes across a wide range of living organisms. Recently, it has been observed that weak magnetic fields can modulate reactive oxygen species (ROS) concentration, affecting regeneration in planaria.

Structure of superoxide reductase bound to ferrocyanide and active site expansion upon X-ray-induced photo-reduction [PDF]

open access: yesStructure, 2004, 12, pp.1729-40, 2015
Some sulfate-reducing and microaerophilic bacteria rely on the enzyme superoxide reductase (SOR) to eliminate the toxic superoxide anion radical (O2*-). SOR catalyses the one-electron reduction of O2*- to hydrogen peroxide at a nonheme ferrous iron center. The structures of Desulfoarculus baarsii SOR (mutant E47A) alone and in complex with ferrocyanide

1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and superoxide anion radical scavenging 1 activities of heterocyclic 2-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidines [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
To investigate1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and superoxide radical (SOR) 17 scavenging activities of 2-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidines derivatives. Free radicals are 18 highly unstable and reactive molecules/atoms. In the body, free radicals form during 19 normal and abnormal metabolism in the body and cause serious damage to other 20 ...

Inhibition of acyl‐CoA synthetase long‐chain isozymes decreases multiple myeloma cell proliferation and causes mitochondrial dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Triacsin C inhibition of the acyl‐CoA synthetase long chain (ACSL) family decreases multiple myeloma cell survival, proliferation, mitochondrial respiration, and membrane potential. Made with Biorender.com. Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable cancer of plasma cells with a 5‐year survival rate of 59%.

Cycling Li-O2 batteries via LiOH formation and decomposition [PDF]

open access: yesScience, 2015
Solving the problems with Li-air batteries Li-air batteries come as close as possible to the theoretical limits for energy density in a battery. By weight, this is roughly 10 times higher than conventional lithium-ion batteries and would be sufficient to
