Munc13-1 and Munc18-1 together prevent NSF-dependent de-priming of synaptic vesicles
The molecular mechanism underlying the generation and maintenance of the readily releasable pool composed of primed synaptic vesicles is only partially known.

Tau association with synaptic vesicles causes presynaptic dysfunction
Mislocalisation of tau occurs in several neurodegenerative diseases and is thought to contribute to synaptic function. The authors show that presynaptically, tau binds to synaptic vesicles via the N-terminus which contributes to synaptic dysfunction.

Synaptic Vesicles Dynamics in Neocortical Epilepsy [PDF]
Neuronal hyperexcitability often results from an unbalance between excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmission, but the synaptic alterations leading to enhanced seizure propensity are only partly understood.

Molecular architecture of synaptic vesicles. [PDF]
AbstractSynaptic vesicles (SVs) store and transport neurotransmitters to the presynaptic active zone for release by exocytosis. After release, SV proteins and excess membrane are recycled via endocytosis, and new SVs are formed in a clathrin-dependent manner.

Methods of measuring presynaptic function with fluorescence probes
Synaptic vesicles, which are endogenous to neurotransmitters, are involved in exocytosis by active potentials and release neurotransmitters. Synaptic vesicles used in neurotransmitter release are reused via endocytosis to maintain a pool of synaptic ...

Synaptic vesicle endocytosis [PDF]
Exocytosis of synaptic vesicles is followed rapidly by reinternalization and recycling of their membranes. Recent studies have confirmed the key role of clathrin-mediated endocytosis in synaptic vesicle reformation and have identified new proteins that participate in this process.

Synaptic Vesicle Exocytosis [PDF]
Presynaptic nerve terminals release neurotransmitters by synaptic vesicle exocytosis. Membrane fusion mediating synaptic exocytosis and other intracellular membrane traffic is affected by a universal machinery that includes SNARE (for "soluble NSF-attachment protein receptor") and SM (for "Sec1/Munc18-like") proteins.

Reduced expression of the vesicular acetylcholine transporter and neurotransmitter content affects synaptic vesicle distribution and shape in mouse neuromuscular junction. [PDF]
In vertebrates, nerve muscle communication is mediated by the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine packed inside synaptic vesicles by a specific vesicular acetylcholine transporter (VAChT).

Activity-dependence of synaptic vesicle dynamics [PDF]
The proper function of synapses relies on efficient recycling of synaptic vesicles. The small size of synaptic boutons has hampered efforts to define the dynamical states of vesicles during recycling.

Yasunori Mori et al. find that a subset of neurotransmitter-bearing synaptic vesicles are marked for release by the endosomal Q-SNARE protein Stx7. They show that Stx7 function is necessary for the rapid replenishment of synaptic vesicles that is needed ...
