Reversible Optical Control of Monolayers on Water through Photoswitchable Lipids

open access: yes, 2011
We have obtained molecular insights into a monolayer of azobenzene-based photoswitchable lipids self-assembled on water, using the surface sensitive technique vibrational sum-frequency generation spectroscopy in combination with surface pressure ...

Identification of phosphatidylserylglutamate: a novel minor lipid in Escherichia coli

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2009
Advances in mass spectrometry have facilitated the identification of novel lipid structures. In this work, we fractionated the lipids of Escherichia coli B and analyzed the fractions using negative-ion electrospray ionization mass spectrometry to reveal ...

Influence of consumption of high oleic sunflower oil on the biosynthesis of fatty acids in the liver of rats

open access: yesJournal of Education, Health and Sport, 2022
Background. To determine the effect of consumption of high-oleic sunflower oil on the content and biosynthesis of energy and polyunsaturated (PUFA) fatty acids in rat liver lipids. Methods. Rats received a semi-synthetic fat-free diet in which 5 % or

CD14‐independent responses induced by a synthetic lipid A mimetic [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Immunology, 2010
AbstractCRX‐527 belongs to a new family of synthetic lipid A mimetics, the aminoalkyl glucosaminide 4‐phosphates, which are considered as potential vaccine adjuvants or stand‐alone immunotherapeutics to harness innate immune defenses. Since natural lipid A from bacterial LPS depends on membrane‐bound (mCD14) or soluble CD14 for its TLR4 ligand activity,

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Designer lipids for drug delivery: From heads to tails [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
For four decades, liposomes composed of both naturally occurring and synthetic lipids have been investigated as delivery vehicles for low molecular weight and macromolecular drugs.

Lipid bilayer properties potentially contributed to the evolutionary disappearance of betaine lipids in seed plants

open access: yesBMC Biology, 2023
Background Many organisms rely on mineral nutrients taken directly from the soil or aquatic environment, and therefore, developed mechanisms to cope with the limitation of a given essential nutrient.

A Synthetic Lipid A Mimetic Modulates Human TLR4 Activity [PDF]

open access: yesChemMedChem, 2011
Innate immunity recognition relies on a diverse set of germ line encoded receptors, termed pattern recognition receptors (PRR), which recognize broad classes of molecular structures common to groups of microorganisms. One of the largest and best studied families of PRR are the Toll family of receptors (Toll-like receptors, TLRs) that detect microbial ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.
