Turning Unpredictable Biomolecule Adsorption to Controlled Corona Formation: Focus on Carbon Nanomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the protein corona formation onto carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) enhances their functionalities as platforms for cancer theranostics. Here, we reviewed the effects of the intrinsic and acquired properties of CNMs on protein corona formation, the consequent biological and toxicological outcomes, and the strategies to reshape corona formation ...

A Network Toxicology Approach for Mechanistic Modelling of Nanomaterial Hazard and Adverse Outcomes

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Hazard assessment is the first step in evaluating the potential adverse effects of chemicals. Traditionally, toxicological assessment has focused on the exposure, overlooking the impact of the exposed system on the observed toxicity.

Comparison of monoamine oxidase inhibition by cigarettes and modified risk tobacco products

open access: yesToxicology Reports, 2019
The adverse effects of cigarette smoking are well documented, and the two main strategies for reducing smoking prevalence are prevention of smoking initiation and promotion of smoking cessation.

Development and Validation of a Highly Sensitive LC-MS/MS Method for the Analysis of Bile Acids in Serum, Plasma, and Liver Tissue Samples

open access: yesMetabolites, 2020
Bile acids control lipid homeostasis by regulating uptake from food and excretion. Additionally, bile acids are bioactive molecules acting through receptors and modulating various physiological processes. Impaired bile acid homeostasis is associated with

Tumbling Magnetic Microrobots for Targeted In Vivo Drug Delivery in the GI Tract

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
We introduce a microrobot design and integrated system for on‐demand targeted drug release in the gastrointestinal tract. The microrobot has an embedded magnet for actuation with external magnetic fields and is visualized in real time using ultrasound. It has two drug release ports sealed with a thermally sensitive wax. Local heating of the wax using a

In vitro toxicology of complex mixtures from drinking water disinfection and amine-based carbon capture systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In nature, exposure to chemical insults and toxic agents never occurs in isolation. Any number of concurrent exposures can result from environmental factors.

Cyclodextrin‐Functionalized Light‐Driven Cu2O Micromotors for Simultaneous Capture and Degradation of Bisphenol A

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Fuel‐free Cu2O‐based micromotors functionalized with β‐cyclodextrin actively remove bisphenol A from water under visible light. The cyclodextrin shell captures BPA and enhances micromotor motility, leading to faster degradation and higher overall removal than nonfunctionalized Cu2O and Cu2O@Au.
