Situating Grammar Instruction in the World Language Classroom: Four Content-Enriched Strategies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The role of grammar instruction in promoting communicative competence continues to be a controversial issue for the world language classroom teacher. Second language acquisition research suggests that critical to sustained progress in language use is a ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Automatic case acquisition from texts for process-oriented case-based reasoning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper introduces a method for the automatic acquisition of a rich case representation from free text for process-oriented case-based reasoning. Case engineering is among the most complicated and costly tasks in implementing a case-based reasoning ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Cache WCET Analysis Method with Instruction Prefetching on Multi-cores [PDF]

open access: yesJisuanji gongcheng, 2018
In order to ensure Hard Real-time Task(HRT) to meet deadlines, their Worst Case Execution Time(WCET) with instruction prefetching need to be analyzed.Although the cache analysis methods with instruction prefetching in single-core have already existed, the ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Impact of Instruction Methods and Task Size on Human Performance and Physical Workload in Manual Assembly

open access: yesIEEE Access
Manual assembly is critical in manufacturing, but it is susceptible to human errors, influenced by task complexity, the clarity of work instructions, and the physical demands on the operator.

Characterizing task-based OpenMP programs. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Programmers struggle to understand performance of task-based OpenMP programs since profiling tools only report thread-based performance. Performance tuning also requires task-based performance in order to balance per-task memory hierarchy utilization ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These
