TFIID binds in the minor groove of the TATA box
Cell, 1991We have analyzed the interaction of the general RNA polymerase II transcription factor TFIID with its DNA-binding site, the TATA box (consensus sequence TATAAAA). We have demonstrated that TFIID, unlike most sequence-specific DNA-binding proteins, interacts primarily within the minor groove of the DNA helix.

SNPS IN THE HIV-1 TATA BOX AND THE AIDS PANDEMIC
Journal of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, 2010Evolutionary trends have been examined in 146 HIV-1 forms (2662 copies, 2311 isolates) polymorphic for the TATA box using the "DNA sequence→affinity for TBP" regression (TBP is the TATA binding protein). As a result, a statistically significant excess of low-affinity TATA box HIV-1 variants corresponding to a low level of both basal and TAT-dependent ...

On Discriminating a TATA-box from putative TATA boxes: A Case Study Using Plant Genome
2005 IEEE Computational Systems Bioinformatics Conference - Workshops (CSBW'05), 2006Prediction of a promoter is one of the many active areas of bioinformatics. The outcome of a promoter detection algorithm is directly or indirectly influenced by the success of identifying the location of a TATA box in a promoter sequence. A profiling technique is very often used to find putative TATA boxes, but discriminating a TATA box from putative ...

RNAa Induced by TATA Box-Targeting MicroRNAs
2017Recent studies reveal that some nuclear microRNAs (miRNA) and synthesized siRNAs target gene promoters to activate gene transcription (RNAa). Interestingly, our group identified a novel HIV-1-encoded miRNA, miR-H3, which targets specifically the core promoter TATA box of HIV-1 and activates viral gene expression.

Previous work has shown that binding of the TATA box binding protein (TBP) to the TATA box is a rate-limiting step during pre-initiation complex (PIC) formation. Although the transcription of eukaryotic genes normally proceeds in one direction, studies in solution have shown that TBP lacks the information necessary to orient itself on the TATA box ...

TATA-binding protein (TBP) is a subunit of basal transcription factor TFIID that recognizes and binds to the TATA-box on TATA-containing promoters of class II genes, and starts assembling RNA polymerase II basal transcription complex. It is shown in many works that the sequence of TATA-box with its flanking regions affects the level of basal and ...

Signals for TBP/TATA box recognition.
Journal of molecular biology, 2000The TATA box-binding protein (TBP) recognizes its target sites (TATA boxes) by indirectly reading the DNA sequence through its conformation effects (indirect readout). Here, we explore the molecular mechanisms underlying indirect readout of TATA boxes by TBP by studying the binding of TBP to adenovirus major late promoter (AdMLP) sequence variants ...
