AURORA-A amplification overrides the mitotic spindle assembly checkpoint, inducing resistance to Taxol [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The serine-threonine kinase gene AURORA-A is commonly amplified in epithelial malignancies. Here we show that elevated Aurora-A expression at levels that reflect cancer-associated gene amplification overrides the checkpoint mechanism that monitors ...

Response to Taxol chemotherapy in resistant ovarian carcinoma.

open access: yesEuropean journal of gynaecological oncology, 1994
Taxol was administered to 25 patients with progressive ovarian cancer who had failed three or more lines of chemotherapy. A response rate of 27% was noted in 22 evaluable patients (5 partial responders; 1 complete responder). Median duration of response was only eight weeks. The impact of Taxol's use in this disease awaits the result of trials in which

Effective therapy of advanced breast cancer through synergistic anticancer by paclitaxel and P-glycoprotein inhibitor

open access: yesMaterials Today Bio
Multi-drug resistance (MDR) in advanced breast cancer (ABC) is triggered by the high expression of P-glycoprotein (P-gp), which reduces intracellular concentration of anti-tumor drugs, in turn preventing oxidative stress damage to cytoplasmic and ...

The role of Galectin-3 and Survivin in invasion and drug resistance in human cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Galectin-3 is an apoptosis-related gene previously found to be over-expressed in invasive tumours and to cause in v itroinvasiveness and metastasis in colon, breast and thyroid follicular cancer cells.
