Telepresence for touch and proprioception in teleoperator systems
IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, 1988The control and operation of mechanical manipulators by a human and the use of sensory tactile and force feedback is reviewed. The terms telepresence, teleproprioception, and teletouch are defined and relevant technologies that have or could have been applied to teleoperation are discussed.

Coordination Control for Haptic and Teleoperator Systems
Proceedings of the 45th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2006In this paper, two controllers are developed for nonlinear haptic and teleoperator systems for coordination of the master and slave systems. The first controller is proven to yield a semi-global asymptotic result in the presence of parametric uncertainty in the master and the slave dynamic models provided the user and the environmental input forces are

KIST teleoperation system for humanoid robot
Proceedings 1999 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems. Human and Environment Friendly Robots with High Intelligence and Emotional Quotients (Cat. No.99CH36289), 2003This paper presents the teleoperation system that controls humanoid slave robot. In order to do a job easily and accurately with humanoid slave, the teleoperation system should be human friendly oriented. The isomorphic configuration of master arm developed in this research helps an operator working with humanoid robot to do his job dexterously.

An examination of the STRIPE vehicle teleoperation system
Proceedings of the 1997 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robot and Systems. Innovative Robotics for Real-World Applications. IROS '97, 2002This paper describes a series of quantitative studies of a user interface for robot vehicle teleoperation. Supervised telerobotics using incremental polyhedral Earth geometry (STRIPE) is a teleoperation system for a robot vehicle that allows a human operator to accurately control the remote vehicle across very low bandwidth communication links, and ...

Dynamics identification and control of a teleoperational system
Proceedings. 1991 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2002A method is described for modeling and controlling a 2-DOF master system of a bilateral force-reflecting teleoperational device. The primary method of control involves the open-loop inversion of the system dynamics. It differs from previous methods in that: (1) it uses an experimentally derived black box nonlinear model of the system; and (2) it does ...

Intuitive teleoperation by micro dome system
Proceedings 2001 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems. Expanding the Societal Role of Robotics in the the Next Millennium (Cat. No.01CH37180), 2002In this study, a novel teleoperation through a spherical display is discussed in the framework of mixed reality. From the viewpoint of the recognition of environment and the maneuverability of teleoperator, it is desired that one should be able to deal with the teleoperation like the usual operation and get the feeling of directly manipulating objects ...

Fault‐tolerant teleoperation systems design
Industrial Robot: An International Journal, 2006PurposeThe objective of this study is to enhance the usage of teleoperation fields, such as in nuclear site decommissioning or nuclear waste disposal, by designing a stable, dependable and fault‐tolerant teleoperation system in the face of “extraordinary” conditions.

Stability Analysis of a Bilateral Teleoperating System
Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement, and Control, 1993In this paper the stability of a control scheme for bilateral master-slave teleoperation is investigated. Given the nominal models of the master and slave dynamics, and using an approximate feedback linearization control, based on the earlier work of Spong and Vidyasagar, 1987, a robust closed-loop system (position and force) can be obtained with a ...

A Bilateral Teleoperation System for Planetary Rovers
2009 International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Software Engineering, 2009In this paper, a bilateral teleoperation system (BTS) is proposed for planetary rover remote control and operation. This is a continuation of the work presented in on computer-simulated virtual environment, that can be used as a predictive display module in the BTS.

Numerical Evaluation of Transparency in Teleoperation Systems
IEEE Robotics and Automation LettersEvaluation of the performance of teleoperation systems plays an important role in assessing the efficacy and reliability of such systems. The evaluation is usually performed based on factors such as stability, transparency, and user satisfaction. However, very few studies have addressed the numerical evaluation of transparency in teleoperation systems ...
