Modulation of telomere protection by the PI3K/AKT pathway
Regulation of telomeres and the insulin/PI3K pathway both have roles in aging and cancer development but have not been functionally linked. Here the authors demonstrate that PI3K, via downstream targets, regulates TRF1 via phosphorylation.

Re: Role of Telomeres and Telomerase in Cancer EDITORIAL COMMENT
The most important difference between cancer and normall cells is the ability to continuous proliferation. This activation works due to telomeres and telomerase enzyme. Fifty years ago, Leonard Hayflick discovered that cultured normal humans cells have a

Phosphatase PPP1CC Regulates the First Lineage Segregation by GAS5 in Mouse Preimplantation Embryos
Subcortical GAS5 directs PPP1CC phosphatase spatiotemporal positioning during mouse morula‐blastocyst transition, controlling YAP dephosphorylation to drive first embryonic lineage specification. ABSTRACT The transcriptional effector of the Hippo signalling pathway, YAP, regulates the first lineage specification in mouse preimplantation embryos ...

PAX8 expression in urothelial carcinoma was investigated in 101 consecutive transurethral resections of the urinary bladder. PAX8 was positive in 10% of cases, with targeted molecular testing of these cases revealing universal TERT promoter mutations and frequent alterations in TSC1, NOTCH1 and WT1. Aims PAX8 immunohistochemistry (IHC) is often used to

Telomerase – future drug target enzyme?
Eucaryotic chromosome endings (telomeres) replication problem was solved in the 1980’s by discovery of the telomerase enzyme. The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded in 2009 for the discovery of telomerase.

Systemic, Lifestyle and Environmental Modifying Factors in the Pathogenesis of Periodontitis
A variety of impacting factors in the pathogenesis of periodontitis exist, including systemic, lifestyle, and environmental factors. This review highlights the manifold mechanistic aspects of the link between the pathogenesis of periodontitis, addressing these numerous factors to supplement the long‐standing knowledge of the progression of the disease.
