Explorations on template-directed genetic repair using ancient ancestors and other templates [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 13th annual conference companion on Genetic and evolutionary computation, 2011
Handling constraints for combinatorial optimization problems is a classic challenge faced by genetic and evolutionary algorithms. This paper explores a naturally inspired genetic repair process to enforce constraints on evolutionary search. Lolle et al.

Evidence Supporting That RNA Polymerase II Catalyzes De Novo Transcription Using Potato Spindle Tuber Viroid Circular RNA Templates [PDF]

open access: yesViruses, 2020
Transcription is a fundamental process that mediates the interplay between genetic information and phenotype. Emerging evidence indicates that RNA polymerase II (Pol II) can catalyze transcription using both DNA and RNA templates.

Probing Ambiguous Base‐Pairs by Genetic Transformation with XNA Templates [PDF]

open access: yesChemBioChem, 2014
AbstractThe templating potential of anhydrohexitol oligonucleotides bearing ambiguous bases was studied in vivo, by using a selection screen for mosaic heteroduplex plasmids in Escherichia coli. 1,5‐Anhydro‐2,3‐dideoxy‐2‐(5‐nitroindazol‐1‐yl)‐D‐arabino‐hexitol showed the greatest ambiguity among the three nucleosides tested.

An analysis of heuristic templates in Genetic Programming for one-dimensional cutting and packing problems [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Companion Conference on Genetic and Evolutionary Computation, 2023
One-dimensional cutting stock and packing problems require determining a set of patterns that are applied a number of times each on raw material pieces to produce a number of customer orders. Among many other solving methods, greedy algorithms guided by heuristic rules stand out due to their low computational cost and ability to be adapted to sets of ...

Study on Morph-genetic Materials Derived from Natural Materials [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Analytical Science and Technology, 2011
The way to fabricate novel morph-genetic functional materials based on nature bio-structures is reviewed. We present the idea and methods of obtaining multi-scale porous materials by using wood, agricultural wastes and butterfly wing scales as bio ...

Generating Loop Patterns with a Genetic Algorithm and a Probabilistic Cellular Automata Rule

open access: yesAlgorithms, 2023
The objective is to find a Cellular Automata (CA) rule that can generate “loop patterns”. A loop pattern is given by ones on a zero background showing loops.

Secure and Efficient Biometric-Data Binarization using Multi-Objective Optimization [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Computational Intelligence Systems, 2015
Biometric system databases are vulnerable to many types of attacks. To address this issue, several biometric template protection systems have been proposed to protect biometric data against unauthorized use.

Efficient and Secure Cancelable Biometric Authentication Framework Based on Genetic Encryption Algorithm

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
Various cancelable biometric techniques have been proposed to maintain user data security. In this work, a cancelable biometric framework is introduced to satisfy user data security and keeping the original biometric template safe away from intruders ...

A methodology for procedural piano music composition with mood templates using genetic algorithms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Creating music in an automatic way has been studied since the beginning of artificial intelligence. One of the biggest obstacles of music generation is the vagueness and subjectivity of the mood or emotion transmitted by a music piece.

Cellular Neural Networks-Based Genetic Algorithm for Optimizing the Behavior of an Unstructured Robot [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Computational Intelligence Systems, 2009
A new learning algorithm for advanced robot locomotion is presented in this paper. This method involves both Cellular Neural Networks (CNN) technology and an evolutionary process based on genetic algorithm (GA) for a learning process.
