Tetrodotoxin and its analogues profile in nemertean species from the sea of Japan

Toxicon, 2018
For the first time search for tetrodotoxin (TTX) and its analogues in the extracts of nemerteans using HPLC-MS/MS was performed. TTX analogues were detected in two nemertean species in addition to TTX: 7 analogues were detected in the extract of Cephalothrix simula, 3 analogues - in the extract 11-norTTX of Kulikovia manchenkoi. Presence of 5-deoxyTTX,

Further report of the occurrence of tetrodotoxin and new analogues in the Anuran family Brachycephalidae

Toxicon, 2005
Tetrodotoxin (TTX) is one of the most potent toxin already isolated, which occurs in a wide range of marine as well as terrestrial animals such as in newts and anurans. In this work, the occurrence of TTX and analogues was examined in three brachycephalid species: Brachycephalus ephippium, B. nodoterga and B. pernix using LC-FLD and LC-MS/MS.

Synthesis of the 8-Deoxy Analogue of 4,9-Anhydro-10-hemiketal-5-deoxy-tetrodotoxin, a Proposed Biosynthetic Precursor of Tetrodotoxin

Organic Letters, 2021
Despite decades of research, the biosynthesis of tetrodotoxin, also known as a puffer fish toxin, remains an unsolved mystery. We disclose a synthesis of the 8-deoxy analogue of 4,9-anhydro-10-hemiketal-5-deoxy-tetrodotoxin, a possible biosynthetic precursor of tetrodotoxin isolated from the Japanese toxic newt, by an intramolecular radical cyclization

The quite low cross-reactivity of Kawatsu's anti-tetrodotoxin monoclonal antibody to 5,6,11-trideoxytetrodotoxin, 11-nortetrodotoxin-6(S)-ol, and 11-oxotetrodotoxin, the major tetrodotoxin analogues in pufferfish

Toxicon, 2023
The monoclonal antibody against tetrodotoxin (TTX), prepared by Kawatsu et al. (1997), has been used in several TTX-related studies. Herein, we confirmed the quite low cross-reactivity of this antibody to three major TTX analogues in pufferfish using competitive ELISA: 5,6,11-trideoxyTTX (

Occurrence of tetrodotoxin and its analogues in the Brazilian frog Brachycephalus ephippium (Anura: Brachycephalidae)

Toxicon, 2002
Brachycephalus ephippium is a diurnal frog, that shows aposematic colouration and inhabits Atlantic forest leaf litter in south-eastern Brazil. The presence of tetrodotoxin (TTX) in the skin, liver and ovaries of B. ephippium was demonstrated. The skin (260 M.U./g) exhibited the highest toxicity followed by liver (177 M.U./g).

An in silico perspective on the toxicodynamic of tetrodotoxin and analogues – A tool for supporting the hazard identification

Toxicon, 2017
Tetrodotoxin (TTX) is a potent neurotoxin naturally found in terrestrial and marine animals targeting the voltage-gated sodium channels. Historically, TTX has raised food safety concerns mainly in the Asian countries due to the consumption of the typical pufferfish-derived delicacy fugu.

Changes in Tissue Distribution of Tetrodotoxin and Its Analogues in Association with Maturation in the Toxic Flatworm, Planocera multitentaculata

Marine Biotechnology, 2022
The toxic flatworm, Planocera multitentaculata, possesses highly concentrated tetrodotoxin (TTX), also known as pufferfish toxin, throughout its life cycle, including the egg and larval stages. Additionally, TTX analogues, 5,6,11-trideoxyTTX and 11-norTTX-6(S)-ol, have also been detected in the flatworm.

Tetrodotoxin and its analogues in extracts from the toad Atelopus oxyrhynchus (family: Bufonidae)

Toxicon, 1992
Tetrodotoxin and its analogues, 4-epitetrodotoxin and 4,9-anhydrotetrodotoxin, were detected in the toad Atelopus oxyrhynchus by HPLC analysis. The toxin and its analogues were still present in a specimen which lived 3.5 years in captivity.

Total Synthesis of Chiriquitoxin, an Analogue of Tetrodotoxin Isolated from the Skin of a Dart Frog

Chemistry – A European Journal, 2014
AbstractThe first total synthesis of chiriquitoxin, the most structurally complex analogue of tetrodotoxin isolated from a Costa Rican dart frog, has been accomplished from a newly designed intermediate for a variety of tetrodotoxin derivatives. The synthesis includes the third total synthesis of tetrodotoxin in this laboratory, and its intermediate ...

The occurrence of 11-oxotetrodotoxin, a rare tetrodotoxin analogue, in the brachycephalidae frog Brachycephalus ephippium

Toxicon, 2003
11-oxoTTX is an analogue 4-5 times more toxic than TTX itself, been rare even in marine animals. Two ions at m/z 320 and 336 corresponding to TTX and 11-oxoTTX (M+H(+)), respectively, were detected in the Brachycephalidae frog Brachycephalus ephippium extracts.
