The occurrence of 11-oxotetrodotoxin, a rare tetrodotoxin analogue, in the brachycephalidae frog Brachycephalus ephippium

Toxicon, 2003
11-oxoTTX is an analogue 4-5 times more toxic than TTX itself, been rare even in marine animals. Two ions at m/z 320 and 336 corresponding to TTX and 11-oxoTTX (M+H(+)), respectively, were detected in the Brachycephalidae frog Brachycephalus ephippium extracts.

The levels of tetrodotoxin and its analogue 6-epitetrodotoxin in the red-spotted newt, Notophthalmus viridescens

Toxicon, 2001
Tetrodotoxin (TTX) and its analogue 6-epiTTX were detected in 11-12 specimens of the red-spotted newt, Notophthalmus viridescens, by a post-column fluorescent-HPLC system and by LC/MS in selected ion monitoring mode. TTX levels varied considerably among individuals from low (less than 0.15 microg TTX/g newt) to high concentrations (23.5 microg TTX/g ...

Tetrodotoxin and analogues in two local pufferfish species from Inhaca Island – South of Mozambique: First report in the Mozambican coast

Toxicon, 2022
Tetrodotoxins (TTXs) were investigated in two local pufferfish species, Diodon hystrix and Arothron hispidus, from Mozambican coast. TTX and analogues 4-epiTTX, 4,9-anhydroTTX, 11-deoxyTTX, and 11-norTTX-6-(R/S)-ol were found in both species and high level of TTX was found in A. hispidus (9522.0 μg TTX kg-1) than in D. hystrix (350.9 μg TTX kg-1).

High-resolution mass spectrometry analysis of tetrodotoxin (TTX) and its analogues in puffer fish and shellfish

Food Additives & Contaminants: Part A, 2016
Tetrodotoxin (TTX) is an emerging toxin in the European marine environment. It has various known structural analogues. It acts as a sodium channel blocker; the ability of each analogue to bind to the sodium channel varies with the particular structure of each analogue. Thus, each analogue will vary in its toxic potential. TTX analogues co-occur in food

Tetrodotoxin and its analogue 6-epitetrodotoxin in newts (Triturus spp.; Urodela, Salamandridae) from southern Germany

Toxicon, 2007
Tetrodotoxin (TTX) and its analogue 6-epitetrodotoxin (6-epiTTX) were quantitatively assayed in 59 newts representing four Triturus species (Triturus alpestris, Triturus cristatus, Triturus helveticus, Triturus vulgaris) from southern Germany by a post-column fluorescent-HPLC system.

The voltage-gated sodium ion channel inhibitory activities of a new tetrodotoxin analogue, 4,4a-anhydrotetrodotoxin, and three other analogues evaluated by colorimetric cell-based assay

Toxicon, 2016
The voltage-gated sodium ion channel inhibitory activities of four tetrodotoxin analogues were evaluated for their ability to reduce the cytotoxicity of ouabain and veratridine in mouse neuroblastoma Neuro-2a cells. EC50 of the novel analogue, 4,4a-anhydrotetrodotoxin purified from pufferfish, was 750 fold larger than that of tetrodotoxin, supporting ...

Quantitation of Tetrodotoxin and Its Analogues with a Combination of Liquid Chromatography–Tandem Mass Spectrometry and Quantitative 1H-NMR Spectroscopy

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2019
Tetrodotoxin and its analogues are the causative toxins of pufferfish poisoning. Tetrodotoxin has been recently detected in bivalve mollusks collected in New Zealand and Europe, highlighting the need to include tetrodotoxin in monitoring programs for bivalves by instrumental methods.

Seasonal variation of tetrodotoxin and analogues in Korean pufferfish (Takifugu pardalis) and risk assessment of dietary exposure in Korean population

Food Chemistry
Tetrodotoxin (TTX) is a potent neurotoxin found at high concentrations in pufferfish Takifugu pardalis. Despite its common consumption in Korea, few studies have examined seasonal variations in TTX and its analogues. This study investigated seasonal changes in TTX and its analogue composition in Korean T.
