Developmental remodelling of Drosophila flight muscle sarcomeres: a scaled myofilament lattice model based on multiscale morphometrics

open access: yesOpen Biology
The indirect flight muscle is a widely used model for studying sarcomere structure and muscle development due to its extremely regular architecture. Nevertheless, precise measurement of the basic sarcomeric parameters remains a challenge even in this ...

The Intriguing Dual Lattices of the Myosin Filaments in Vertebrate Striated Muscles: Evolution and Advantage

open access: yesBiology, 2014
Myosin filaments in vertebrate striated muscle have a long roughly cylindrical backbone with cross-bridge projections on the surfaces of both halves except for a short central bare zone. In the middle of this central region the filaments are cross-linked

Analysis of the elements and metals in multiple generations of electronic cigarette atomizers. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BackgroundSince their release in 2004, electronic cigarettes (ECs) and their atomizers have undergone significant evolution.ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the elemental/metal composition of atomizers in cartomizer and tank

Terahertz Wave Guiding by Femtosecond Laser Filament in Air

open access: yes, 2013
Femtosecond laser filament generates strong terahertz (THz) pulse in air. In this paper, THz pulse waveform generated by femtosecond laser filament has been experimentally investigated as a function of the length of the filament. Superluminal propagation

The Three-Dimensional Structure of Interior Ejecta in Cassiopeia A at High Spectral Resolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We used the Spitzer Space Telescope's Infrared Spectrograph to create a high resolution spectral map of the central region of the Cassiopeia A supernova remnant, allowing us to make a Doppler reconstruction of its 3D structure. The ejecta responsible for

All‐in‐One Analog AI Hardware: On‐Chip Training and Inference with Conductive‐Metal‐Oxide/HfOx ReRAM Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐in‐one analog AI accelerator is presented, enabling on‐chip training, weight retention, and long‐term inference acceleration. It leverages a BEOL‐integrated CMO/HfOx ReRAM array with low‐voltage operation (<1.5 V), multi‐bit capability over 32 states, low programming noise (10 nS), and near‐ideal weight transfer.

Loss of Smyhc1 or Hsp90alpha1 function results in different effects on myofibril organization in skeletal muscles of zebrafish embryos. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
BACKGROUND: Myofibrillogenesis requires the correct folding and assembly of sarcomeric proteins into highly organized sarcomeres. Heat shock protein 90alpha1 (Hsp90alpha1) has been implicated as a myosin chaperone that plays a key role in ...

Critical current density and microstructure of iron sheathed multifilamentary Sr1-xKxFe2As2/Ag composite conductors

open access: yes, 2015
Iron-based superconductors have been considered to be very promising in high-field applications, for which multifilamentary wire and tape conductors with high mechanical strength are essential.

Biodegradable and Recyclable Luminescent Mixed‐Matrix‐Membranes, Hydrogels, and Cryogels based on Nanoscale Metal‐Organic Frameworks and Biopolymers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents biodegradable and recyclable mixed‐matrix membranes (MMMs), hydrogels, and cryogels using luminescent nanoscale metal‐organic frameworks (nMOFs) and biopolymers. These bio‐nMOF‐MMMs combine europium‐based nMOFs as probes for the status of the materials with the biopolymers agar and gelatine and present alternatives to conventional ...

Cryo-EM structures of cardiac muscle α-actin mutants M305L and A331P give insights into the structural mechanisms of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Cell Biology
Cardiac muscle α-actin is a key protein of the thin filament in the muscle sarcomere that, together with myosin thick filaments, produce force and contraction important for normal heart function.
