Elaboration and characterization of thiolated chitosan-coated acrylic nanoparticles
International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2006The aim of the present work was to investigate the use of thiolated chitosan in the development of polysaccharide-coated nanoparticles in order to confer specific functionality to the system. After chemical modification of commercial and hydrolysed chitosan (400,000 and 9400 g/mol respectively), thiolated chitosans were used to elaborate particles in ...

The derivatization of the primary amino groups of chitosan with coupling reagents bearing thiol functions leads to the formation of thiolated chitosans. So far, three types of thiolated chitosans have been generated: chitosan-cysteine conjugates, chitosan-thioglycolic acid conjugates and chitosan-4-thio-butyl-amidine conjugates.

Synthesis and in vitro evaluation of a novel thiolated chitosan
Biomaterials, 2005In order to achieve the same properties as chitosan-4-thio-butyl-amidine and to overcome at the same time its insufficient stability, the aim of this study was to evaluate the imidoester reaction of isopropyl-S-acetylthioacetimidate for the chemical modification of chitosan and to study the properties of the resulting chitosan-thioethylamidine (TEA ...

Enzymatic degradation of thiolated chitosan
Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, 2012The objective of this study was to evaluate the biodegradability of thiolated chitosans in comparison to unmodified chitosan. Mediated by carbodiimide, thioglycolic acid (TGA) and mercaptonicotinic acid (MNA) were covalently attached to chitosan via formation an amide bond.

The thiolated chitosan: Synthesis, gelling and antibacterial capability
International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2019Chitosan-1-(mercaptomethyl)-cyclopropane acetic acid (CS-MCA) copolymer was synthesized by amino linkage. The obtained copolymer was characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR, XRD, TGA and SEM. Porous and reticulate morphologies were found on the CS-MCA surface. The effects of pH on the rheological properties of CS-MCA were investigated.

Chitosan and Thiolated Chitosan
2011Thiolated chitosans constitute an integral part of designated “thiomers”, which are thiolated polymers widely investigated for non-invasive drug delivery. In brief, thiomers display thiol-group-bearing ligands on their polymer backbone. Through thiol/disulfide exchange reactions and/or a simple oxidation process, disulfide bonds are formed between such

Tailorable Thiolated Trimethyl Chitosans for Covalently Stabilized Nanoparticles
Biomacromolecules, 2010A novel four-step method is presented to synthesize partially thiolated trimethylated chitosan (TMC) with a tailorable degree of quaternization and thiolation. First, chitosan was partially N-carboxylated with glyoxylic acid and sodium borohydride. Next, the remaining amines were quantitatively dimethylated with formaldehyde and sodium borohydride and ...

Thiolated chitosan micelles: Highly mucoadhesive drug carriers
Carbohydrate Polymers, 2017Current study was aimed to generate thiolated chitosan micelles based on amphiphilic chitosan-stearic acid conjugate (CSA) and to evaluate adhesive properties on mucosal membranes. Chitosan-stearic acid-thioglycolic acid (CSA-TGA) conjugate was synthesized via stearic acid linkage to chitosan and later, thioglycolic acid was covalently attached to CSA.

Liposomes coated with thiolated chitosan as drug carriers of curcumin
Materials Science and Engineering: C, 2017Liposome is one of a promising delivery system to improve water solubility, stability, and bioavailability of curcumin. But its instability is not favorable for long-circulating treatment, controlled release or conservation. To overcome the disadvantages, thiol derivatised chitosan (CSSH) were synthesized and utilized to coat liposomes. The CSSH coated

Thiolated chitosans: In vitro comparison of mucoadhesive properties
Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2011AbstractThe aim of this study was to compare the mucoadhesive properties of thiolated chitosans with regard to their molecular mass and type of immobilized thiol ligand. Mediated by a carbodiimide, aromatic‐ and aliphatic‐thiol‐bearing compounds were covalently attached to low‐ and medium‐molecular‐mass chitosan. All synthesized conjugates displayed on
