Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

ZrOCl2·8H2O: An efficient and recyclable catalyst for the three-component synthesis of amidoalkyl naphthols under solvent-free conditions

open access: yesJournal of Saudi Chemical Society, 2016
An efficient synthesis of amidoalkyl naphthols from the reaction of β-naphthol and various aromatic aldehydes and amides using ZrOCl2·8H2O, an environmentally friendly catalyst under a thermal solvent-free green procedure is described.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Convergent Synthesis of Dendrimers via the Passerini Three-Component Reaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The Passerini three-component reaction is an isocyanide-based multicomponent reaction through which an aldehyde, a carboxylic acid, and an isocyanide form an α-acyloxycarboxamide motif.
