Three-dimensional cell culture and tissue engineering in a T-CUP (tissue culture under perfusion) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The aim of this study was to develop and validate a simple and compact bioreactor system for perfusion cell seeding and culture through 3-dimensional porous scaffolds.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Engineering exosomes by three-dimensional porous scaffold culture of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells promote osteochondral repair

open access: yesMaterials Today Bio, 2023
Improving the poor microenvironment in the joint cavity has potential for treating cartilage injury, and mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-derived exosomes (MSC-Exos), which can modulate cellular behavior, are becoming a new cell-free therapy for cartilage ...

A three-dimensional tri-culture model for the ex vivo study of acute myeloid leukaemia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Ex vivo studies of human disease, such as acute myeloid leukemia, are generally limited to the analysis of two-dimensional cultures which often misinterpret the effectiveness of chemotherapeutics and other treatments.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Three-dimensional cell culture

open access: yes, 2007
The present invention relates to a three-dimensional cell culture system for culturing adipocytes. The invention also relates to methods for culturing adipocytes and for obtaining adipocytes from preadipocytes in cell culture.

Drug discovery approaches utilizing three-dimensional cell culture

open access: yes, 2016
Historically, two-dimensional (2D) cell culture has been the preferred method of producing disease models in vitro. Recently, there has been a move away from 2D culture in favor of generating three-dimensional (3D) multicellular structures, which are ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Induction of a novel isoform of the lncRNA HOTAIR in Claudin‐low breast cancer cells attached to extracellular matrix

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, 2017
Elevated overexpression of the lncRNA HOTAIR mediates invasion and metastasis in breast cancer. In an apparent paradox, we observed low expression of HOTAIR in the invasive Claudin‐low MDA‐MB‐231 and Hs578T cells in two‐dimensional culture (2D). However,
