Mimicking Epithelial Tissues in Three-Dimensional Cell Culture Models

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2018
Epithelial tissues are composed of layers of tightly connected cells shaped into complex three-dimensional (3D) structures such as cysts, tubules, or invaginations.

Microfluidic Invasion Chemotaxis Platform for 3D Neurovascular Co-Culture

open access: yesFluids, 2022
Advances in microfabrication and biomaterials have enabled the development of microfluidic chips for studying tissue and organ models. While these platforms have been developed primarily for modeling human diseases, they are also used to uncover cellular

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

In Vitro Three-dimensional (3D) Cell Culture Tools for Spheroid and Organoid Models.

open access: yesSLAS discovery : advancing life sciences R & D, 2023
Three-dimensional (3D) cell culture technology has been steadily studied since the 1990's due to its superior biocompatibility compared to the conventional two-dimensional (2D) cell culture technology, and has recently developed into an organoid culture ...

Three-dimensional instability in flow over a backward-facing step [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Results are reported from a three-dimensional computational stability analysis of flow over a backward-facing step with an expansion ratio (outlet to inlet height) of 2 at Reynolds numbers between 450 and 1050.

Conserved binding mode but diverse interfaces of MreC‐PBP2 interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of abMreC reveals a conserved two β‐barrel architecture and provides structural insights into its role within the bacterial elongasome. The abMreC–abPBP2 complex model identifies the molecular basis of MreC‐mediated PBP2 recognition, contributing to the regulation of peptidoglycan synthesis.

Structure‐forward targeting of claudins with synthetic binders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Claudins form the paracellular barriers between epithelial and endothelial tissues at tight junctions and are targets for molecular binders with the goal of modulating barrier permeability. Claudin‐binding molecules are relevant in drug delivery or in altering claudin interactions with disease‐causing proteins.

Three-dimensional culture models of mammary gland [PDF]

open access: yesOrganogenesis, 2009
The mammary gland is a complex tissue comprised of a branching network of ducts embedded within an adipocyte-rich stroma. The ductal epithelium is a bi-layer of luminal and myoepithelial cells, the latter being in contact with a basement membrane. During pregnancy, tertiary branching occurs and lobuloalveolar structures, which produce milk during ...

The use of three-dimensional cell culture to study apicobasal polarization and lumen formation

open access: yes, 2022
The three-dimensional culture of epithelial cells allows the characterization of processes required for collective epithelial polarization, such as formation of an epithelial lumen.
