Direct thrombin inhibitors [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, 2011
Heparins and vitamin K antagonists have been the primary agents used for anticoagulation in certain cardiovascular and thromboembolic diseases for over 50 years. However, they can be difficult to administer and are fraught with limitations. In response to the need for new anticoagulants, direct thrombin inhibitors (DTIs) have been developed and ...

Self‐Adjusting Engineered Probiotic for Targeted Tumor Colonization and Local Therapeutics Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Zou et al. developed an engineered strain of Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 with precise targeting abilities for colonization and on‐demand payload release. The engineered probiotic survives and embolizes tumors only in the presence of more than 5 mM L‐lactate. Furthermore, the introduction of an α‐hemolysin circuit enhances its anti‐tumor effect.

Application of thrombin powder after tooth extraction in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy [PDF]

open access: yesVojnosanitetski Pregled, 2002
Patients with extreme hypocoagulation, which occurs either as an effect of some diseases with coagulation deficiency or because of the anticoagulant therapy (ACT), are a risk group for oral surgery. In the last decades decision to change or interrupt ACT

Reaction-diffusion waves of blood coagulation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
One of the main characteristics of blood coagulation is the speed of clot growth. This parameter strongly depends on the speed of propagation of the thrombin concentration in blood plasma. In the current work we consider mathematical model of the coagulation cascade and study the existence, stability and speed of propagation of the reaction-diffusion ...

Electrical Microneedles for Wound Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A review on state‐of‐art research concerning electrical microneedles applied for wound treatment is presented. After a comprehensive analysis of mechanisms of electrical stimulation on wound healing, the derived three types of electrical microneedles are clarified and summarized. Further, their applications in wound healing are highlighted.

Core and shell platelets of a thrombus: A new microfluidic assay to study mechanics and biochemistry

open access: yesResearch and Practice in Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 2020
Background Hemostatic clots have a P‐selectin positive platelet core covered with a shell of P‐selectin negative platelets. Objective To develop a new human blood microfluidic assay to interrogate core/shell mechanics.

Deregulation of calcium homeostasis in Bcr-Abl-dependent chronic myeloid leukemia [PDF]

open access: yesOncotarget, Impact journals, 2018, 2019
Background: Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) results from hematopoietic stem cell transformation by the bcr-abl chimeric oncogene, encoding a 210 kDa protein with constitutive tyrosine kinase activity. In spite of the efficiency of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI; Imatinib), other strategies are explored to eliminate CML leukemia stem cells, such as ...

Accurate Delivery of Mesenchymal Stem Cell Spheroids With Platelet‐Rich Fibrin Shield: Enhancing Survival and Repair Functions of Sp‐MSCs in Diabetic Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Autologous plasma‐derived platelet‐rich fibrin (PRF) is prepared as a protective shield for mesenchymal stem cell spheroids (Sp‐MSCs). PRF forms a fibrin shield to protect Sp‐MSCs from the oxidative stress environment. The nutrients in PRF, particularly the α‐granules, can enhance the repair function of Sp‐MSCs.
