Predictors of Brain Infarction in Pediatric Patients During Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
In 179 pediatric ECMO patients, brain infarction (BI) occurred in 28% and was linked to markedly higher 30‐day mortality. VA ECMO mode (vs. VV) and higher pre‐ECMO arterial lactate independently predicted BI, supporting standardized neuro‐monitoring and liberal early brain CT, especially for children on VA ECMO.

Anti-phospholipid-antibodies in patients with relapsing polychondritis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Relapsing polychondritis (RP) is an extremly rare multisystemic disease thought to be of autoimmune origin. In order to assess if RP is associated with anti-phospholipid antibodies (aPL), clinical data and sera of 21 patients with RP were collected in a ...

Percutaneous Intervention in External Outflow Graft Obstruction of Magnetically Levitated Left Ventricular Assist Device: Long‐Term Follow‐Up and Quality of Life

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
eOGO is an uncommon adverse event in patients on long‐term LVAD support. Thirty‐one eOGO patients were identified in a single‐centre HM3 implantation program. Twenty patients underwent percutaneous stenting. This treatment resulted in immediate LVAD flow improvement and yielded satisfactory quality‐of‐life results, with 62.5% patients assigned a fair ...

Tissue thromboplastin

open access: yesKazan medical journal, 1988
The appearance of tissue thromboplastin (factor III, tissue factor) in the bloodstream leads to one of the most dangerous non-specific disorders of hemocoagulation - disseminated intravascular clotting (DIC). Although the components of the thromboplastin reaction are known, the molecular organization of tissue thromboplastin to the extent necessary to ...

Identification of Coagulation Phenotypes Using Viscoelastic and Conventional Assays During Veno‐Venous Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation: A Hierarchical Clustering Analysis

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
Hierarchical clustering of viscoelastic and conventional coagulation parameters identified three distinct phenotypes in V‐V ECMO patients, revealing substantial APTT–CK‐R discordance and highlighting the value of TEG‐derived markers for detecting coagulopathy not captured by standard monitoring.

Acquired Factor V Deficiency After Carbapenem Administration: A Case Report [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Acute Care Surgery
Factor V (FV) deficiency is a coagulation disorder (congenital or acquired). Unlike congenital FV deficiency, mixing tests for prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time are not corrected in acquired FV cases.
