Lung inflammation and immunity : report from the 12th ERS Lung Science conference [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The European Respiratory Society (ERS) seeks to alleviate suffering from respiratory diseases and promote lung health through research, dissemination of knowledge, and medical and public education. In support of this mission, the ERS organises the annual

Advances in Bioprinting to Model Immune‐Mediated Skin Diseases

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores how 3D bioprinting drives innovation in developing in vitro skin models that mimic immune‐mediated diseases. It highlights current technologies, key applications in studying skin pathologies, and emerging challenges. The review points toward future opportunities for improving disease modeling and advancing therapeutic and cosmetic ...

The Role of TSLP in Atopic Dermatitis: From Pathogenetic Molecule to Therapeutical Target

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 2023
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a kind of chronic skin disease with inflammatory infiltration, characterized by skin barrier dysfunction, immune response dysregulation, and skin dysbiosis.

Intelectin contributes to allergen-induced IL-25, IL-33, and TSLP expression and type 2 response in asthma and atopic dermatitis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The epithelial and epidermal innate cytokines IL-25, IL-33, and thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) have pivotal roles in the initiation of allergic inflammation in asthma and atopic dermatitis (AD).

Blood tryptase and thymic stromal lymphopoietin levels predict the risk of exacerbation in severe asthma

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
Some patients with severe asthma experience exacerbations despite receiving multiple therapy. The risk of exacerbation and heterogeneous response to treatment may be associated with specific inflammatory molecules that are responsive or resistant to ...

A Lung‐Immune Dual‐Humanized Mouse Using Cryopreserved Tissue Enables Infection and Immune Profiling of Human Common Cold Coronaviruses

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cryopreserved lung‐humanized mice overcome the dependency to fresh tissues and permit head‐to‐head profiling of all four human common cold coronaviruses versus SARS‐CoV‐2 infection; the model validates Paxlovid efficacy against HKU1 and, when coupled with human immune‐system engraftment, enables interrogation of lung‐resident human immunity and HKU1 ...

Molecular Targets for Biological Therapies of Severe Asthma: Focus on Benralizumab and Tezepelumab

open access: yesLife, 2021
Asthma is a heterogeneous respiratory disease characterized by usually reversible bronchial obstruction, which is clinically expressed by different phenotypes driven by complex pathobiological mechanisms (endotypes).

NAD+‐Dependent Enzyme SIRT3 Limits Intestinal Epithelial Cell Functions Through NAD+ Synthesis Pathway in Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microbiota‐derived quinolinic acid is used as an alternative source of replenishing the intracellular NAD+ pool induced by SIRT3 deficiency to regulate intestinal epithelial cell and T cell function, which has implications for targeting intestinal epithelial cells as an approach to the treatment of immune‐associated diseases, including colorectal ...

Tezepelumab achieves improvement of severe uncontrolled asthma and rhinosinusitis: Case series

open access: yesJournal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: Global
Tezepelumab, a mAb targeting thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), reduces exacerbations in severe asthma. Four cases in which patients with severe asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps showed improvements in both conditions after receiving ...

A Natural Sweetener‐inducible Genetic Switch Controls Therapeutic Protein Expression in Mammals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops a natural sweetener, the psicose‐inducible transgene expression (PURE) system based on an Agrobacterium tumefaciens–derived transcriptional repressor PsiR. The PURE system is highly specific to psicose, being insensitive to other sugars and structurally similar molecules.
