Is Streptococcus pyogenes resistant or susceptible to Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Streptococcus pyogenes is commonly believed to be resistant to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (SXT), resulting in reservations about using SXT for skin and soft tissue infections (SSTI) where S. pyogenes is involved. S.

Mitochondrial DNA Depletion Syndrome 1 (MTDPS1)—A Novel Cause of Premature Ovarian Insufficiency

open access: yesClinical Genetics, EarlyView.
We describe a woman with MNGIE due to a novel homozygous TYMP nonsense variant and propose MNGIE as the cause of her premature ovarian insufficiency—a rarely reported association—highlighting the need to consider mitochondrial disease in unexplained POI, especially in atypical, consanguineous presentations. ABSTRACT Mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome

Biocatalytic Construction of a Chemical Exchange Saturation Transfer Magnetic Resonance Imaging Nucleoside Probe: Synthesis and Evaluation of 5‐Methyl‐5,6‐Dihydrothymidine

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, Volume 368, Issue 1, January 2026.
Al‐Hilfi et al. present a biocatalytic strategy for synthesizing 5‐methyl‐5,6‐dihydrothymidine (5‐MDHT), a sensitive MRI contrast agent. The study demonstrates that recombinant enzyme catalysis offers an efficient, sustainable, and eco‐friendly alternative to traditional chemical synthesis for producing clinically relevant imaging probes.

Thermodynamic reaction control of nucleoside phosphorolysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Nucleoside analogs represent a class of important drugs for cancer and antiviral treatments. Nucleoside phosphorylases (NPases) catalyze the phosphorolysis of nucleosides and are widely employed for the synthesis of pentose‐1‐phosphates and nucleoside ...

Interdomain twists of human thymidine phosphorylase and its active–inactive conformations: Binding of 5‐FU and its analogues to human thymidine phosphorylase versus dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase

open access: yesChemical Biology and Drug Design, 2019
5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU) is an anticancer drug, which inhibits human thymidine phosphorylase (hTP) and plays a key role in maintaining the process of DNA replication and repair.

Targeted 2‐Deoxy‐D‐Ribose Delivery by Biomimetic Nanoplatform Activates EGFR for Accelerated Heart Valve Endothelialization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 6, 30 January 2026.
This study develops a biomimetic nanoplatform using erythrocyte membrane‐camouflaged, CD144 antibody‐functionalized nanoparticles to deliver 2‐deoxy‐D‐ribose (2dDR). This system promotes heart valve endothelialization by enhancing endothelial cell migration and proliferation via EGFR activation, while improving hemocompatibility.

Spatial Transcriptomics Reveals Transcriptomic and Immune Microenvironment Reprogramming during Thyroid Carcinoma Dedifferentiation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 44, November 27, 2025.
Spatial transcriptomic analysis of Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC)‐differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) coexisting tumors reveals that coexisting DTC regions with ATC‐like genomic alterations undergo sequential transcriptomic reprogramming and immune microenvironment remodeling, ultimately evolving into a full ATC pathological phenotype.
