Association between Sensitivity to Thyroid Hormone Indices and Bone Mineral Density in US Males

open access: yesInternational Journal of Endocrinology, 2022
Objectives. Thyroid hormone is acknowledged as a pivotal factor in skeletal development and adult bone maintenance. However, available data about the relationship between sensitivity to thyroid hormone and bone mineral density (BMD) remain limited and ...

Characterization of a Low Affinity Thyroid Hormone Receptor Binding Site within the Rat GLUT4 Gene Promoter

open access: yes, 2023
Previous studies have demonstrated that thyroid hormone (T3) stimulates insulin-responsive glucose transporter (GLUT4) transcription and protein expression in rat skeletal muscle.

Quantitative proteomic analysis reveals different characteristics of bladder cancer cells after exposure to bisphenol A

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bisphenol A (BPA), a common chemical in plastics, exerts dual effects on bladder cancer cells: low doses promote growth and migration, while high doses suppress growth and migration. Multi‐omics and bioinformatics reveal BPA acts via MAPK and inflammatory pathways.

Thyroid Hormone Resistance Syndromes

open access: yes, 2019
Syndromes with impaired sensitivity to thyroid hormone (TH) include three types of resistance to thyroid hormone (RTH) syndromes (RTHβ, RTHα, and nonTR-RTH) and also include patients with defects in TH transport into cells (thyroid hormone cell membrane ...

GAD65 Antibody ELISA With Extended Reportable Range: Validation and Guidance for Neurological Practice

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To (1) validate GAD65‐ELISA detection and quantification for type 1 diabetes mellitus and autoimmune neurological diagnoses, (2) correlate ELISA results (reference range < 5 IU/mL) with established radioimmunoprecipitation assay (RIA; ≤ 0.02 nmol/L), and (3) define ELISA clinical utility and pitfalls.

Sick euthyroid syndrome: A myth or reality

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Critical Care, 2017
Altered thyroid function in non-thyroidal illness(NTI) is a well-recognized finding. The term euthyroid sick syndrome (SES) identifies abnormalities in thyroid function observed in patients with systemic nonthyroidal illnesses (NTIs).

Tissue‐Stimulator Platform for Electrically Stimulating Pancreatic β‐Cells for Long‐Term Functional Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a tissue‐stimulator platform for seamless electrode integration with pancreatic tissue, applying uniform electrical stimulation through optimized design with biohybrid 3D printing. Advantageous effects of electrical stimulation on β‐cell function were observed, including enhanced calcium signaling, islet morphology, and maturation.

Urinary phytoestrogen levels and reduced thyroid hormone sensitivity: a cross-sectional analysis of NHANES 2007–2010

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Medical Research
Background Estrogen and thyroid hormone interact extensively in vivo, but the relationship between phytoestrogens and thyroid function and thyroid hormone sensitivity remains unclear.

Resistance to thyroid hormone beta (R243Q) with autoimmune primary hypothyroidism: report of a kindred [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Endocrinology and Metabolism
The syndrome of resistance to thyroid hormone beta (RTHβ) is characterized by impaired tissue responsiveness to thyroid hormone and manifests as non-suppressed thyrotropin despite elevated thyroid hormone levels.

Targeting Post‐Irradiation Thyroid Dysfunction: Electrospun Scaffolds As A Dual‐Action Approach for Antioxidant and Immune Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Radiation‐induced hypothyroidism follows head and neck radiotherapy due to oxidative stress and inflammation. Electrospun polycaprolactone scaffolds containing adenosine have potential to modulate thyroid repair. Scaffolds enhance thyrocyte proliferation, antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase and catalase, reduce senescence and apoptosis markers ...
