Correlation of TIMP1-MMP2/MMP9 Gene Expression Axis Changes with Treatment Efficacy and Survival of NSCLC Patients

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2023
In the course of lung cancer, normal cells are transformed into cancerous ones, and changes occur in the microenvironment, including the extracellular matrix (ECM), which is not only a scaffold for cells, but also a reservoir of cytokines, chemokines and

Designing TIMP (tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases) variants that are selective metalloproteinase inhibitors

open access: yesBiochemical Society Symposia, 2003
The tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs) are endogenous inhibitors of the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), enzymes that play central roles in the degradation of extracellular matrix components. The balance between MMPs and TIMPs is important in the maintenance of tissues, and its disruption affects tissue homoeostasis.

The role of sinusoidal endothelial cells and TIMP1 in the regulation of fibrosis in a novel human liver 3D NASH model

open access: yesHepatology Communications
Background:. The prevalence of NAFLD is rapidly increasing. NAFLD can progress to NASH, fibrosis, cirrhosis, and HCC, which will soon become the main causes of liver transplantation.

Plasma matrix metalloproteinases in neonates having surgery for congenital heart disease

open access: yesHeart International, 2009
During cardiopulmonary-bypass matrix-metalloproteinases released may contribute to ventricular dysfunction. This study was to determine plasma matrix-metalloproteinases in neonates after cardiopulmonary-bypass and their relation to post-operative course.

Unbalanced Metalloproteinase-9 and Tissue inhibitors of Metalloproteinases Ratio Predicts Hemorrhagic Transformation of Lesion in Ischemic Stroke Patients Treated with Thrombolysis: Results from the MAGIC Study

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2015
Background Experimentally, metalloproteinases (MMPs) play a detrimental role related to severity of ischemic brain lesions. Both MMPs activity and function in tissues reflect the balance between MMPs and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs ...

Tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases are proteolytic targets of matrix metalloproteinase 9

open access: yesMatrix Biology, 2023
Extracellular proteolysis and turnover are core processes of tissue homeostasis. The predominant matrix-degrading enzymes are members of the Matrix Metalloproteinase (MMP) family. MMPs extensively degrade core matrix components in addition to processing a range of other factors in the extracellular, plasma membrane, and intracellular compartments.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Clinical Investigation of Matrix Metalloproteinases, Tissue Inhibitors of Matrix Metalloproteinases, and Matrix Metalloproteinase/Tissue Inhibitors of Matrix Metalloproteinase Complexes and Their Networks in Apical Periodontitis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Endodontics, 2016
This clinical study investigated the levels of metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their tissue inhibitors (TIMPs) and respective forms (MMP/TIMP complexes) in apical periodontitis to determine their networks in the development of clinical/radiographic features, thus quantifying the levels of endotoxins (lipopolysaccharides) present in primarily infected ...
