Immune role of hepatic TLR-4 revealed by orthotopic mouse liver transplantation [PDF]

open access: yesHepatology, 2007
Activated CD8+ T cells migrate to the liver at the end of an immune response and go through apoptosis there, but this mechanism is impaired in mice lacking Toll-like receptor-4. This allowed us to test the importance of liver trapping in an ongoing immune response.

Trichinella spiralis galectin binding to toll-like receptor 4 induces intestinal inflammation and mediates larval invasion of gut mucosa

open access: yesVeterinary Research, 2023
Previous studies showed that Trichinella spiralis galectin (Tsgal) facilitates larval invasion of intestinal epithelium cells (IECs). However, IEC proteins binding with Tsgal were not identified, and the mechanism by which Tsgal promotes larval invasion ...

Host‐Directed Biomaterials for Combatting Bloodstream Infections: From Macrocyclic Peptides to Immune‐Activating Cell Backpacks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bloodstream infections (BSI) are one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in both civilian and military populations. This paper summarizes recent progress in novel treatment strategies to manage BSI arising from both bacterial and fungal pathogens using molecules, particles, and materials to elicit host‐directed immunity.

Down‐regulation of TLR‐4 in Hypoxic Myoblast Cells

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2013
Intrauterine hypoxia is a common complication of human pregnancy. Intima hyperplasia and increased expression of inflammatory markers in aortae of chronically hypoxic fetuses were demonstrated previously. Objective To determine the ...

TLR-4 deficiency protects against focal cerebral ischemia and axotomy-induced neurodegeneration [PDF]

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2008
The pattern recognition receptor toll-like receptor (TLR)-4 mediates innate danger signaling in the brain, being activated in response to lipopolysaccharide. Until now, its role in the degenerating brain remained unknown. We here examined effects of a loss-of-function mutation of TLR-4 in mice submitted to transient focal cerebral ischemia and retinal ...

Skin Mast Cells Contribute to Sporothrix schenckii Infection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Background: Sporothrix schenckii (S. schenckii), a dimorphic fungus, causes sporotrichosis. Mast cells (MCs) have been described to be involved in skin fungal infections. The role of MCs in cutaneous sporotrichosis remains largely unknown. Objectives:
