RNase L Is Involved in Liposaccharide-Induced Lung Inflammation

open access: yesViruses, 2020
RNase L mediates interferon (IFN) function during viral infection and cell proliferation. Furthermore, the role of RNase L in the regulation of gene expression, cell apoptosis, autophagy, and innate immunity has been well established in the last decade ...

Localization of lipopolysaccharide from Escherichia Coli into human atherosclerotic plaque [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Experimental studies showed that gut-derived lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is pro-atherogenic, however, its relationship with human atherosclerosis is still to be defined.

TLR4 endocytosis and endosomal TLR4 signaling are distinct and independent outcomes of TLR4 activation

open access: yesEMBO Reports
Abstract Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) signaling at the plasma membrane and in endosomes results in distinct contributions to inflammation and host defence. Current understanding indicates that endocytosis of cell surface-activated TLR4 is required to enable subsequent signaling from endosomes.

Matrix Viscoelasticity Regulates Dendritic Cell Migration and Immune Priming

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Matrix viscoelasticity is a key mechanical feature of the tumor microenvironment but remains poorly understood in immune regulation. Here, we develop a tunable collagen platform to decouple viscoelasticity from stiffness and show that slow‐relaxing matrices constrain dendritic cell migration by limiting actomyosin‐driven matrix remodeling, thereby ...

Characterization of structural and immunological properties of a fusion protein between flagellin from Salmonella and lumazine synthase from Brucella [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Aiming to combine the flexibility of Brucella lumazine synthase (BLS) to adapt different protein domains in a decameric structure and the capacity of BLS and flagellin to enhance the immunogenicity of peptides that are linked to their structure, we ...

Natural Products Inspired Scaffold Diversification Leads to Unnatural Molecular Warhead and Covalent Strategy to Modulating Protein Function through Electrophilic Bromine Transfer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We report a new thiolate‐reactive α,α‐gem‐dibromo lactam warhead that activates transcription factor Nrf2 and demonstrates anti‐inflammatory activities, which have implications in cancer, neurodegeneration, and cardiovascular diseases. RNA‐seq illuminated detailed transcriptional profiles, and chemical reactions with cysteine‐containing compounds ...

The development of metabolic endotoxemia is dependent on the type of sweetener and the presence of saturated fat in the diet

open access: yesGut Microbes, 2020
Fat and sweeteners contribute to obesity. However, it is unknown whether specific bacteria are selectively modified by different caloric and noncaloric sweeteners with or without a high-fat diet (HFD).

The role of mucosal immunity in the pathogenesis of necrotizing enterocolitis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is the most devastating gastrointestinal disease of prematurity. Although the precise cause is not well understood, the main risk factors thought to contribute to NEC include prematurity, formula feeding, and bacterial ...

Beta amyloid aggregates induce sensitised TLR4 signalling causing long-term potentiation deficit and rat neuronal cell death

open access: yesCommunications Biology, 2020
The molecular events causing memory loss and neuronal cell death in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) over time are still unknown. Here we found that picomolar concentrations of soluble oligomers of synthetic beta amyloid (Aβ42) aggregates incubated with BV2 ...

Improved Systemic Immunochemotherapy Employing an Oxaliplatin‐TLR7/8 Agonist Prodrug Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A platinum(IV) prodrug is developed to systemically deliver the TLR7/8 agonist gardiquimod. Tumor‐targeting is mediated by an albumin‐binding maleimide, which limits premature complex activation. Ox‐Gardi‐Mal accumulates specifically in the tumor, where it activates the immune system.
